All'inizio topthorn era aggressivo nei confronti di gioia, ma col tempo divennero amici o forse più.
ma nel 1918, Topthorn morì per via degli abusi subiti nella guerra, e Joey ne era triste, quando ritornò felice a casa con Albert, non si può dire che sia così nell'aver perso l'amico.
negli anni Joy penserà sempre a Topthorn.
