Azzi doesn’t know what happened, quite frankly. All she knows is that she woke up the morning after Paige’s draft last year and the blonde girl had wanted nothing to do with her. She stopped picking up her calls and slowed down on answering her texts until those weren’t getting replied to at all. Azzi tried to reach out about visiting her in Dallas, but she was ghosted every single time. She stopped liking her posts on every single social media platform. Azzi doesn’t know what happened.

Azzi Fudd was drafted number one overall to the Golden State Valkyries after winning her first Natty with UCONN. Then she won ROTY, and at the ESPN afterparty Azzi realizes, that outside of basketball, she is entirely alone in the world. Luckily, she finds her way into the arms of a tall blonde with the most beautiful eyes and an intoxicating voice that makes Azzi realize why people actually want relationships.
Paige Bueckers is the American upstart from McLauren. As the first woman to race since the 1990's, and she takes that role very seriously; and if that means she has to play the part of the straight girl next door, so be it. Paige is fine with one night stands with women from around the globe and NDA's in the morning. Thats until her old friend drags her to an ESPN party on an off night, because at that party Paige meets a mysterious woman with the most gorgeous smile Paige has ever seen, and a laugh...God that laugh. -

Fresh off back-to-back national championships at UConn, Azzi Fudd is ready for the next stop in her basketball journey: the WNBA. Expansion team Portland Fire make a splash leading up to the draft, acquiring the rights to the No.1 overall pick and Arike Ogunbowale from the Dallas Wings. Azzi arrives in Portland with no roots in the city, missing her teammates in Storrs and her family. She decides to make her way to Powell's bookstore to procrastinate her unpacking, only to stumble into a media event featuring Portland Thorns' goalkeeper Paige Bueckers.
With the Fire and the Thorns set to share a brand new facility, Azzi and Paige's paths keep crossing. It's clear to everyone that their chemistry is undeniable. azzi rolled closer, slipped on her headset and took a deep breath. here goes nothing.
"hello?"
"bueckers, checking in. how's it going, mission control?'
azzi stops a sigh from escaping her lips. "wrong profession."
"what?"
"mission control is a nasa thing. i'm your tech support."
paige lets out a laugh at that, and it catches azzi off guard. normally it took people a couple months to get azzi's dry humor, if they ever do. but here paige was, laughing, like any jab azzi threw at her would roll off like warm rain.
