The coffee shop date had gone better than perfect. It had been warm, simple, and unshaken by performance. No teasing eyes from classmates. No feeling like he had to look over his shoulder when Karasu’s hand brushed his under the table. Just them. Just real.
But now the buzz of it had dulled into something quieter. He could still hear Karasu’s voice in his head—“You’re stupid enough to like me, apparently.” And Otoya’s smile had been so wide then. He hadn’t wanted it to end.
Which brought him here, sitting in his room at 7:42 PM, psyching himself up to tell his parents he was dating a boy.
He wasn’t scared exactly. His parents weren’t cruel. They weren’t the kind to throw plates or disown anyone. But they had assumptions. They had dreams. They had, for the last seventeen years, very clearly thought Otoya Eita would grow up, charm some lovely girl, and bring her home with flowers.
And Otoya had let them believe that.
