Fingon understood, he said, that however much they might dislike each other they could empathize better than anyone else. "You love her, however badly you do so, and these days I find myself loving her very little."
So they talked, and drank, and wept, and Maglor did not say that Russandol did not forget Fingon at Losgar, unwilling to give him even that cold comfort, even after drink and grief drove him to kiss Fingon in the mouth. Neither of them were gentle with each other, Maglor jerking him with dry hands and Fingon fingering him with brusque movements that betrayed his inexperience. They pulled at each other's hair, and bit at each other until their lips were bleeding, but they did not punch or kick, and that was progress.
Maglor and Maedhros have kept each other's hearts since Valinor. It takes quite a while for Fingon to join them.
