Summary
Johnny thinks he might, possibly, be starting to lose his mind. There's a couple reasons for this. The first is he's been seeing...things...that nobody else can see. The second is he's been having weird dreams involving fire and a man made of metal.
His attempt to get to the bottom of whatever's going on in Mayview sweeps him into a world he's not prepared for. Most kids would be thrilled about getting superpowers, but for Johnny there's just one, simple problem: he's completely and absolutely scared to death of fire.
The fact that he's harboring a massive crush on the new kid in town doesn't help matters either. Neither does the fact that the spirit possessing him seems to have plans of its own...

Ah, the beautiful sunshine of a Bayview summer day. Or that’s what his father would say. Good thing Max’s hat shielded him from the rays. Isaac next to him was squinting his eyes, and Johnny, at his other side, was shielding himself with his hand.
“Why do we even go to school in the summer, anyway?” Max said as they walked. That never made sense to him, but it was the first time he let himself say it out-loud. It was a wonder he managed to go through the entire last week without mentioning that once. He even forgot about it, what with all the Trying-Not-To-Die and such.
