Summary
Of all the things Eddie had ever expected Buck to ask him about, he absolutely hadn’t thought it would be his fake dating services.
“I... Yeah, I do. I do that. Why?”
“Well, um, I was wondering... And I know this sounds really weird, especially since I don’t think I’ve ever really talked to you before, which I’m sorry about, by the way, because I'm sure you’re a really cool guy, and I know I’ve seen you at some parties before, and we’ve been in this class together all semester, but—”
Finally, Eddie manages to pull himself together enough to hold up a hand to stop Buck’s rambling, and the boy immediately snaps his mouth shut, blue eyes wide and a little panicked.
“Buck, what exactly do you want?” he asks, brow furrowed with confusion, and Buck’s nervous shuffling increases tenfold, his smile completely gone now.
“Right. Um. I... I was wondering if maybe you’d be willing to, um... to fake date me.”

Eddie sat up, frowning. He wiped the sweat from underneath his nose with his arm and said, "I thought Tommy broke up with you."
Buck looked caught out. He glanced at Ravi, who seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else at that moment.
"Yeah," Buck said slowly. "He did. The first time."
Eddie's eyebrows raised up his forehead. "The first time?"
Buck shifted on his feet. "Uh, yeah."
"Buck," Eddie said, aware that his voice had dropped low and warning. "What was the second time?"

Summary
"There's not a perfect formula to make it work," Hen says. She's drunk. That was good advice. She should stop there.
Except, Hen's been in her own share of relationship shit this year. She almost lost her wife, the love of her life. She almost never saw the sun rise again, almost had to live in some lifelong darkness. She's not in the ideal headspace to give good advice.
She doesn't stop there.
"There should be, though," she carries on, starting to match Buck's half-manic energy. "We should make one, a list. A list of things you can do to make a relationship work."
or five times Buck got drunk with Hen to complain about his love life, plus the one time they got drunk together at his wedding.

Summary
Buck doesn’t have an emergency contact. Maddie's not here, and his parents have never cared. Connor? No go. Abby? He's known her a few weeks, so no.
Buck supposes that putting a random number wasn't a good idea. He had initially considered putting Bobby down but he didn’t want to be a nuisance. They’ve gotten closer, sure, Bobby calls him kid, Buck called him pops once, they went to a Springsteen concert together but Bobby’s his boss. So what did he do?
He just opened the Los Angeles phonebook he found at a phonebooth, opened it at a random page, put his finger at a random line, and put those random numbers down.
Enter: Eddie Diaz, Emergency Contact Extraordinaire

Summary
“Alright,” Eddie hums. “You can ask me twenty questions.”
“Only twenty questions?” Buck asks, exasperated. “Dude we have to ask each other questions all the time, I’m gonna run out like an hour into our next shift - wait, do I have to ask them all now?”
“Twenty personal questions that I promise to answer honestly, as long as you answer the same question - or a contextually similar one - honestly as well. And I reserve the right to decline to answer any two questions until a later date,” Eddie corrects, adding a frankly obscene amount of sugar to his coffee.or

You're really - hot and nice and. I don't know. I don't see how more people aren't nervous around you." Eddie's shoulders lifted in a small shrug. "That's actually two of the points on my list."
"Hot and nice?"
"There are only four points so far. The other two are you're funny and you have a nice laugh." Eddie paused. "Five, actually. You're also good with kids."
Buck chuckled as he took a drink of his beer. "All good points. Sounds like I'm a catch."
"Oh, so I can add modest to the list, too." Eddie rolled his eyes playfully while Buck laughed harder. Eddie smiled, wanting to hear that laugh again, and again, and again. Hopefully Buck would let him.

Summary
“I can’t order you guys to go inside that building, and I’m not going to judge you if you decide not to.” Bobby says, looking at Hen.
“Hen, you got a kid, so…” Chimney says, shifting from one foot to another.
I have a kid, Eddie thinks. Does that mean he shouldn't go in that building?
“I do. And I’d hope if someone whose job it was to save him had the chance, they’d do it. No matter what.” Hen says firmly.
Eddie glances at Buck, who was already looking at him. It was like Buck heard Eddie’s internal struggle. Buck gave Eddie a slight nod. But it was enough to convey what Buck was trying to say.
‘I’ve got your back’
‘I won’t judge you’
‘We can do this’
It’s enough for Eddie. A lifeline for him to hold on to, that he can use to get through the day.
