Athena was still struggling with the weight of her goodbye. At times she had her doubts but it was for the best, she would convince herself.
If Odysseus would not listen to reason, then he can't continue being her student. It was just that simple.
At least, it should have been.
She'll come to find out in time that her goodbye was also her greatest mistake.
But what will become of the lost King, the Goddess of Wisdom and everyone they are connected to from this sudden realization?
Note: SOMEWHAT AU, HAPPENS FURTHER IN.

Summary
Sweat trickled down his smooth skin, his chest rising and falling sharply as he brought his trembling hand to his chest, clutching the fabric around him to calm the pounding heart. No matter how hard he tried to forget it, or pretend it hadn't happened, the same nightmare repeated itself over and over. He always woke up when Poseidon sank his raft and everything went blurry.
What was his mind trying to hide from that encounter? Was this punishment for his reckless actions? Did he have to keep paying even after all he had lost? Wasn't Poseidon satisfied? It wasn't his intention to hurt his son! Nor to mock him... he only wanted to survive... to return... to Ithaca... to Telemachus... to Penelope...
— Odysseus! — His wife's worried voice pulled him from his thoughts. His muscles, rigid with fear that coursed through every fiber of his being, suddenly relaxed, and he collapsed onto the wool bed beneath them. He exhaled shakily as the woman beside him drew near to embrace him, reminding him that he was no longer adrift in the ocean for years; now he was in Ithaca, in his home with the family who had waited so long for him.

Summary
"Since you claim your so much wiser, why's your life spent all alone? You're alone!"
Odysseus breathes heavy, anger and sadness and frustration searing his mind as he glares up at Athena. The landscape of Quick Thought has shifted without his realization. The expanse of stars surrounding the hourglass seem almost frozen, the consistent ticking has slowed to a noticeable degree and as he looks, really looks, at Athena her emotionless mask is very much a mask at this moment. He expects rage, maybe more sneering disappointment but all he sees is a blank face on the Goddess of Wisdom...
"One day, you'll hear what I'm saying
One day, you might understand
One day, but not today."
Her voice is tinged with such a heavy amount of grief when she speaks that he can't bring himself to offer any more rebuttal. But the weight of her next words are more than he can handle.

Summary
Is a small shift in the universe enough to change fate, or is fate immutable? Is the path predestined and must we walk it no matter how it is walked? Or can we carve a new path borne of desire to change it all?
Polites walks away from the Cyclops cave. Eurylochus doesn't. Will it matter in the end? Will things have changed? Or does it even matter that the end is the end, that the fated path will force their way onto it, when maybe, somehow, there's still a little less suffering in the middle? Must a change be grandiose for it to matter, or do the small hours and little moments make the same journey a little easier to bear no matter where they end up? Does the love that's there change anything at all, no matter how small?
