After Chuck’s defeat, Sam thought things would finally settle. He thought he’d have his brother, a chance at peace, maybe even time to grieve the ones they lost. But Dean’s silence about Castiel’s death is a weight Sam can’t shake, no matter how many times he tries to pry answers from him. Then, in one heartbeat, Dean’s life is slipping away in a barn, and Castiel, human, fragile, impossibly alive, is standing there again. Sam should be relieved. He should be grateful. Instead, all he feels is confusion, hurt, and a quiet fear he can’t name. Because if Cas is back, if Dean is alive, then why does it still feel like something between them is broken?

------Look, it's been almost 5 years and I'm still deep in my feelings if I think about the finale for more than 2 seconds, so...
I wrote this piece shortly after the end of show, because I knew there were a thousand different ways to end it, including the death of the brothers but without doing the crap they did with 15x20. If Sam and Dean had to die, they should at least do so by freeing the world from Chuck, to give humanity the free will for which they have always fought. I only published it in Italian, because back then I wouldn't be able to handle an English version. Now, after finishing the podcast Monster of the week (which I highly recommend!) I found myself struggling with the feelings aroused by that damned finale. And so...I finally translated this story.

After traveling to the past, Jack brings back a duplicate made from Cas’s human days and endows him with grace. Jack has caught Cas up on all the events of the past several years, but there’s one thing Jack doesn’t know about.
Dean is faced with getting a version of Cas back who has absolutely no idea that he had confessed his love for him to save his life.

Dean’s fine. Really, he is. Despite how much Sam will pester him about how he’s acting off, and how he should talk about everything they had gone through 3 months ago. Dean, however, doesn’t feel a need to talk about anything. Chuck is defeated, reduced to a vessel as weak and feeble as he always truly was. The two of them had actually broken free and escaped the narrative that had shaped their entire lives, although they were never very good at following it in the first place. So Dean should feel the greatest he’s ever felt, but he doesn’t. He has no idea why he doesn’t, why there’s still this pit in his stomach. He has tried tirelessly to rid himself of it, but nothing seems to work.

This is my first fic for supernatural, so i'm still trying to understand how to write for them. This fic will have Sam as more than a background observer, and explore his own grief with Cas's death. At the moment I'm planning to write a few chapters for this, but i'm not sure how many. I will update when I can. -
