She looks around the room in thought, and glances over at Holtzmann, who’s now leaning back, chugging water from a bottle the size of her head. Her already too-short tank top is riding up and Erin can see that Holtzmann is, in fact, not wearing a bra. Not to mention it’s pretty see through. She’s got to be committing several dress code violations.
Erin turns back to her laptop. She takes note of the anxious feeling that has now set up shop in her stomach and the sudden clamminess of her palms.
She bites her lip and clicks on her answer: Mostly people of the same sex as mine.//

She started to say “I love you,” and she started to say “I’m sorry” (for leaving you) (for everything), but in the end, all of the words Erin wanted to say died on her lips as she held Abby’s unbearable gaze, right after the most important person in the world to her had just said:
“I’ll get him to chase me in,” and
“Just keep firing and hold that open,” and
“This thing’s pretty long,” and
“I have to try.”
In the version of canon where Abby chooses to go willingly into the portal with no guarantee of coming back out, Erin contends with a realization she has never given voice to, determined to give herself one more chance to.
