Donatello (now called Tello to avoid confusion) comes in contact with another Donatello (nicknamed Don). He gets to know the other's universe and brothers, which apparently have superpowers? Everything was going great, until Don stopped responding. Out of all reasons as to why, krang invasion definitely was a good one.

He blinked slowly, furrowing his brow. Swallowing was a struggle. His chest twinged. He felt embarrassed when he whispered, “I don’t…”
“That’s okay,” she soothed. “I… I’m sorry for not being here sooner. The guys, they told me what was going on. They told me everything.”
Donnie stared at her blankly, trying to piece together what she meant. Everything. What was everything supposed to mean?
Oh.
It slammed into him all at once. The large hand shattering his wrist, his head cracking against the floor, screaming as Leo ran his blade through his shoulder, Raph ripping through his shell like paper, dragging him back by the ankle, shattering his plastron, hands around his throat, squeezing, being dizzy and delirious and terrified and begging—
They’d tried to kill him. They’d tried to kill him and she knew.

Summary
Raph is their big brother. The one who is the biggest. But for some reason, this doesn't always extend to his smile—sometimes, it is too small for someone who always has to be so big. Maybe it's because he doesn't have an older brother to make the world feel safer.
Donnie is one of Raph's "baby brothers," yes. But Donnie is also a fixer. This is his job. One day, he will fix everything and make it to where Raph doesn't need an older brother to feel less scared. Then, maybe he'll be more like Leo, who practices to make sure his smile is never too small. Or, he might even be like Mikey, whose smile is so big, he has to grow just so it can fit on his chubby little cheeks.
For now, though, Raph is stuck being like Donnie, who simply doesn’t smile right.

At ten years old, Leo convinced Donnie to admit that they were twins, despite all the evidence. Immediately, it sparks a new argument, with the boys unable to decide who should be older.
Only a few years later, though, the bickering is long forgotten and their compromise an often-used support system.
But maybe neither of them realized just how much they needed it, needed each other, until that support was gone for good.

After defeating the Shredder, Donnie and his family need a temporary place to stay while Splinter searches for a new lair for them. As luck would have it, April's mom recently closed her antique shop for the next few months to care for April's sick father, so the family can split themselves up between there and Draxum's apartment until a new lair is found. As convenient as this is, Donnie can't help feeling overwhelmed by all the sudden changes in his life, and these feelings are hitting a breaking point.
Or, Donnie has a meltdown and Leo helps him calm down.
