Summary
Time is not a circle, nor a rhyme, but a wave, a rhythm. It moves forward inexorably, with many repeating peaks and valleys. Functionalism's orns are numbered. Disquiet and discord are growing yet again. Mecha are tired: tired of living lies, tired of working and being worked to death, tired of being nothing more than cogs in a machine. The last summit has past. Cybertron tumbles into the deepest abyss yet seen.
The Matrix of Leadership has not Saught unlimited since the Era of Carbon Discord, when the Quintessons reigned. It yearns to Seek a True Bearer. It will soon have its chance.
The foundation of a civilization is only as strong as the tools used to shape it. Cybertron's civilization is crumbling from the base. It may be too late to halt the collapse.
Something fundamental is missing. Something at the center is wrong. Two mecha orbit each other, as they should, but unstably, uncontrollably, unsustainably. Something is off-kilter, unbalanced, uncentered. Something is wrong.

Summary
Trying to fix a broken world is harder than anyone would think. Optimus is doing it because who else can, he’s Prime after all and it’s his duty to protect and make sure that now after the war everyone can heal, including himself.
But what no one realizes is that the matrix has other plans that involve him no longer baring that title. He is not who is needed for what is to come, someone new has to take the mantle. Someone who almost no one expects to be chosen, someone who doesn’t believe himself to ever be deserving of it.
A certain firebot is forced to become the face of that everyone watches and the voice that they now have to ask of what’s next. He really just wants to go back to his regular life, he doesn’t see himself as a prime.
But soon he’ll realize that he is the one who’s needed for the future of humans and bots.

Slowly, Optimus shook his helm, pulling his servo out of his grip. “That will not be enough. I cannot afford to be a normal mech.” He caught his gaze and held it, and Ratchet saw a sadness hidden deep in his optics. “I cannot have weaknesses, Ratchet.”
The Matrix requires a mech who will be impartial—one who will make choices for the benefit of all Cybertronians, no matter the personal cost.
