He had always had those "inner voices" even as far back as early childhood, but ever since Vine had died and he had decided to transpose his fans' favorite characters onto the different voices he heard based mostly on vibes (and a certain creative spark) the voices had gotten clearer, more distinct... and then a lot more present.

It’s better that way, he knows, as he’s learned that letting it fall is much less painful than it cracking fully; it means he can affix it back on and try again, and he can’t be done yet. So he needs this; he needs to be imperfect; he needs his old self; he needs his other half; he needs… Remus.

The pressure around his head increases as he stares at the painting of the King atop his Throne, idly playing with a sword as the shadow of someone bows to him, a cat settled in his lap purring away.
He looks young, a Boy King, no older than six, red and green eyes light and happy but still skilled. Hands calloused but still small. He looks assured and confident in a way Roman never is.
The Throne looks perfect for him.
Roman thinks he would look too small for it.
Roman thinks he would look too big for it.
But the slash through the painting ruins it. Cleaving right through the boy and the cat, and it makes Roman’s skin itch and his chest ache.

Janus and Romulus—Thomas’s Deceit and Creativity—were formed on the same day, ten minutes apart, both born of his ability to separate reality from fiction. For as long as they’ve known each other, as long as they’ve been alive, they’ve been best friends and called each other their twin.
Thomas is seven now. Seven year olds have big responsibilities, and so the four Sides are hard at work. Janus is figuring out how and when to lie. Patton is taking on “right” and “wrong” in addition to emotions, and finding his new role exhausting and scary. Logan is constantly busy as Thomas learns new things about the world. Meanwhile, Romulus is exploring the depths and reaches of his creativity—but Thomas’s parents and teachers don’t always like what he comes up with.
As the four little Sides undergo stress and strain, will Janus be able to move past his own pride and help Romulus, Patton, and Logan reach compromises for Thomas’s sake? Or will his stubbornness have consequences far beyond what he can even comprehend?
