Summary
Snow remembers Blood.
Blood darkens the snow in careful increments. Emil follows the trail without haste—trained not to rush, not to waver, not to feel too much. He is a prince taught to pray. An assassin taught to finish what others cannot. Tonight, those lessons are at war.
The creature he finds by the river is not what Emil expects.
Wings folded wrong. Magic twisted into a Nullscape. A boy washing blood from his hands as if guilt can be scoured away by cold water and pain. Recently changed. Badly wounded. Terrified. Guilty of something terrible—
Emil raises the blade anyway.
Because someone died. Because the cure is gone. Because desperation does not excuse murder.
And then Marcel and Fletcher arrive.
Fletcher holds the line the way he always has—quietly, brutally, with a steadiness learned through loving people who are sharp enough to break themselves. Marcel kneels where the snow is red, hands gentle and unafraid.
What follows is not forgiveness. It is not justice. It is survival.
No one here is clean. No one here is finished.

and choosing to carry what comes after.
