Tadashi Yamaguchi had always been different.
And for a while, he was okay with that. He loved his freckles and his unusual hair color. It wasn't until elementary and middle school where things all went downhill. He pretended he way okay for a while, but how long could he keep doing that before he snapped?
The answer was until his last year of middle school.
And going into his first year of high school with a new mindset plus a bit of concealer, he wonders how he put up with all that for so long. So now, he made a promise to himself.
He would never let people see him that vulnerable ever again. Being himself around people would just fuck up everything.
So why did these short, bubbly people (he refused to call them friends) keep trying to get to know him?

Yamaguchi is happy. He smiles every day, and cheers his teammates on, and gets good grades. He has a wonderful best friend who’s so much cooler than him, and a warm home to return to every night. He is confident and grateful and loves living.
He is not hurting. Blood does not spill from open wounds, does not stain his fingers or twirl down shower drains. It does not pool in the back of his throat and coat his teeth in metallic red. There is no nasty, writhing shame in his chest to be ignored.
He doesn’t wake up in the morning with dry, puffy eyes or cracked lips. He tends to his hygiene well, and remembers to drink more than just the tears that trail salt across his lips.
Of course he’s doing well. There’s no reason not to, and nothing else to be, after all.

Language arts was Yamaguchi Tadashi’s least favorite class, because he could never articulate his thoughts or understanding of concepts into words. When he began to write, each sentence felt like it was a contradiction, folding in on itself and losing any sense of meaning.
It strangely resembled his life, the fact that with each day and event a new problem and paradox presented itself. It takes many years for him to find the source of the confusing tale that is his life, and as he looks back on it, he found that it all was just a big tangled up knot of thoughts and feelings with no real shape. Can he find the loose thread and pull it to finally untangle the mess that is his life?
