Summary
Stanley had never studied the art of odds. He didn’t know any methods by which one could fudge such things in their favor, he didn’t know how to game a system or win at poker. He was not a man who understood the properties of chance and fortune (didn’t think they were real in the first place); but it felt as if a curse had just been broken. Maybe one of many curses. The script of destiny Stanley had been following flipped over, like a coin pinwheeling in the air above someone’s palm right before they slapped it down, and when it did come down, it came down on Stanley’s side. He wasn’t going to die here.
