My dearest family,
I am well and safe. Our battalion is encamped at the newly taken Fort Bronzgate. Heavy storms have made the march further south perilous — we are unlikely to move on from here before the New Year. Winter makes a hard, cold season for all of us so far from home.
I think of you, my little ones by day, dream of you at night and continue to find my best comfort in your affections. I pray that your own hardships will not be too great to bear. Remember when you are in doubt to look to your Mother. Put your trust and faith in her — she has always been my wisest teacher and truest friend. And promise me you won’t neglect to take care of one another — never forget that you are a pack. In winter the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.
Cat, watch over them and give them each my dear love and a kiss — they are my light in these darkest days. May the Old Gods and the New bless and keep you.
