He can’t breathe.
The tail around his throat tugs, and suddenly his back is slamming down hard into the ground, the impact jarring every wound. It’s agony. Ripping, shredding. It’s the worst pain he’s ever felt.
His heart picks up the pace, beats erratically in his chest as his mind screams at him to get back up, to run, to do whatever he needs to do to survive; but he can’t do anything at all, really. He’s pinned down, a storm of wings and so many teeth surrounding him.
Red lightning flashes above him, reminding him that he’s in literal Hell.
He’s being eaten alive, and all he can think as the pain starts to numb is, I’m not ready.
Please, not like this. Not now. Please.
And then, from somewhere above all the madness that has become Eddie’s existence, a shape plunges into the wild fray. A human shape, an avenging angel, wielding a weathered baseball bat filled with bloody nails like it’s a prayer in the dark.

“I don’t know if you’d recognize him.” Dabi grunts for him to continue, glad to be finally getting some answers. “A former pro hero. Hawks.”
The ball falls to the floor once more.

The physical therapist said my core strength is weak," he admitted, left arm subconsciously reaching over to grab the injury on his right side. AFO had really done a number on him – that dent on his waist was visible, even through his clothes. "...That's why I can't stabilize enough to get off the crutches." Shoto nodded, recalling the therapist’s notes – something about 'engaging the lower abdominal muscles without straining the legs'.
A thought flickered at the edge of his memory. Fuyumi’s room. That odd device she’d shoved under the bed.
Shoto stood, wiping his hands on his thighs. “Wait here."
