In the card Magnum Opus, Sylus and MC briefly joke about their "ill-fated relationship." The English translation isn't wrong but if you're unfamiliar with Chinese storytelling traditions, it's easy to read this as a case of star-crossed lovers whose relationship is doomed to end badly.
But that's not what it actually means.
The Chinese script uses 孽缘 (nièyuán), which doesn't refer to a tragic romance so much as a karmic entanglement.
Once you understand what it means, a lot about Sylus and MC's relationship will start to make sense:
- why their story feels cyclical,
- why Sylus is so intent on MC recovering her memories,

i noticed a motif in the show of using close-ups on shane and ilya to trick the audience into thinking the guys are physically closer to each other than they actually are. it's really obvious in sochi when shane goes to check in with ilya. i thought it was a really cool way to convey the emotional distance between the two, so i broke it down here.

I know non-fictional memoirs are pretty much unheard of on AO3, but please bear with me here. I think I've made it obvious through The Fic of Bill's 127 chapters (and counting) that I have a deep personal connection to Bill Cipher, but what is not obvious to those outside my inner circle is just how deep that connection goes. Cipher is real- but not in the way you may think.
My experiences will be written in a Journal 3-esque style, complete with images of the events and a "my reflection" that just might be my variant of Ford's "my muse", so if you liked Journal 3, you may like this too!
