Summary
Her gaze locks on the broken picture frame, the image of her and Elliot shattered on the floor, and she feels a sharp pang in her heart. She slowly bends down to pick it up, her fingers tracing over the broken glass. A wave of emotion washes over her, and she has to bite back the tears that threaten to fall.
The sound of a familiar voice breaks through her reverie, jolting her out of her thoughts. "You can always get a new frame." The shock of hearing Elliot's voice behind her makes her freeze in place. She slowly turns around, eyes wide at seeing him standing in the doorway.
"Elliot..." Olivia's voice is filled with a mixture of disbelief and relief. Her eyes take in every detail of his face, the familiar lines and features etched into her memory. He's here - really here - standing in her apartment, the very sight of him enough to make her knees feel weak.

She goes to open her door when Elliot’s hand reaches out and grips her wrist. His touch feels like fire on her skin, the warmth of his palm seeping through her flesh and straight to her heart. “Liv,” he murmurs, forcing her to turn and face him.
She tries to pull her wrist out of his grasp, but he holds firm. She looks at him, trying to keep her face calm, even though his touch makes her heart race. “You need to check on your wife, Elliot,” she says coldly, trying to hide how his touch is affecting her.
He feels a pang in his chest at the coldness in her voice, the walls he’d been so desperate to tear down already going back up. “I know,” he murmurs, as his eyes scan over her face, finally settling on her eyes. “But we need to talk.”

He startles as the soft alarm sounds under the sheets when he shifts.
“Is that—?”
“A bed alarm,” Olivia says calmly. “You so much as swing your legs off the side of this mattress, half the floor’s gonna hear it. If you even think of getting out of this bed for anything other than to use the bathroom, I will cuff you to it.”
“That could be kind of fun, actually.” His face brightens, a little too excited by the idea, and Olivia laughs for the first time in what feels like forever.
“You’re ridiculous.”
“You started it.” He squeezes her hand.
