Lan Zhan gave his husband a mild warning glance. “Wei Ying.”
“Right, right,” Wei Ying said, raising both hands. “Serious talk. Continue, young man.”
A-Yuan exhaled shakily. “When we were learning about… how babies are made… my classmates were all talking…”
Wei Ying could see it now—the nervous twitching of A-Yuan’s fingers, the way his voice trembled slightly.
“And then,” A-Yuan said, words rushing out, “someone asked me… if I’m adopted.”
The room went still.
