Enid felt herself dissolve. Her shoulders slumped, completely defeated by two brown, bloodshot eyes that blinked up at her. She roughly brushed past Ajax and leaned down to push a strand of hair behind Wednesday’s ear. Wednesday was slow to react, still trying to blink Enid into something she could actually see.
“Let’s go home,” Enid whispered to her, hands on her shoulders.
“Enid,” Wednesday repeated. Finally, she could feel a part of her tongue. She gave it a test bite before speaking. “That was a good brownie.”
