Benrey huffs, then shoulders past Bubby and stalks up to Gordon, staring down at him for a moment with an odd look on his face before dropping into a crouch.
“Hey,” he says. “We’re uh...best friends.”
Oh, this motherfucker. Gordon almost breaks character over that egregiously incorrect statement, but reins himself in. He kind of wants to see where this will go.
“Are – are we?” he chokes out instead.
“Yeah. Best friends,” Benrey nods, then holds out a hand. “So, uh...come with me? Please?”

He should have known when they got out of the car their first time at the coast and Lambda raced down the sand to the water so fast that Gordon tripped straight out of his sandals trying to keep up with her. When he stood barefoot on the wet sand, watching her shift from a bounding fox into a gull, then a sleek sea lion, then a sturgeon as she leapt from wave to wave – he should have known then that she would never be happy out of the water again.

Last time Benrey checked, he was in the void, finding it harder and harder to stay awake. Now he's in an apartment he's never seen and the only way it gets more unbelievable is when he finds it's Gordon Freeman's apartment. Gordon, the one person who probably wouldn't hesitate to kill him again.
Except he's looking at him in a much softer way then before and Benrey is certain that he missed something while he was gone and has no idea how to deal with this.
