There's a recent case of a Spectator going haywire and implementing psychological cues onto random civilians to hurt and kill each other. Lumain takes care of this, of course, but not before the damage is done.
The Spectator's masterpiece is in the form of a low sequence Beyonder who wholeheartedly believes he is Gehrman Sparrow. And as we all know, a name in mysticism matters more than one might think.
Fors is the one who's left to clean this mess up. How will she deal with it?

“SecUnit, what’s your favorite smell?” Double ugh. How the fuck was I supposed to answer this without being rude?
“I like it when there isn’t a smell.” There, that was a positive spin on my negativity, I guess. Maybe I should have lied, though. Everyone in the shuttle was frowning to some degree. Way to bring down the mood, Murderbot.

Summary
It seems like there should be a very neat line, at least for humans, between dead and not dead, but I’ve seen enough messy half-alive humans to know that there is no such clear distinction. I’ve seen bodies that were still breathing despite missing part of their heads, bodies that weren’t breathing despite their owners being fully conscious. I wouldn’t call either option alive. I wouldn’t call either option dead, either.
For a machine intelligence, the border is even blurrier. It's hard to say which side of it I will stand on when they're through with me.

I had been incredibly skeptical when Ratthi had sent me ‘Midnight Eclipse.’ I knew what fanfiction was, I had seen it in the more niche entertainment feeds before. Never specifically for Sanctuary Moon, but I'd assumed it existed. That didn't mean I had any actual interest in it, though. When I had first looked at them, I hadn't liked them. The quality varied too much and a lot of them weren't finished, or were really short, or really out of character. And I hated that. I really really hated that.
This one was different.
