Summary
He wants the fish to be beautiful, something he can watch for hours, something that will take up space the way Eddie used to, without even trying. A creature that will grow comfortable in its new home, that will explore and settle and stay.
In the end, he chooses a betta with long, flowing fins, deep blue with streaks of red that catch the light like silk ribbons in water.
Buck loves him.
Loves the way he moves through the water, confident and unhurried. Loves the way he turns toward Buck when he leans in, like maybe he sees him too. Loves knowing that for all the loss and loneliness tangled up inside him, there’s something alive here, something he built a home for with his own hands.
Or; Eddie moves away and Buck spirals, buys a fish, joins the yummy mommies and loses his god damn mind.

Summary
Tommy had lived a hard life. Between his father, the army and his first few years at the 118 under the worst captain imaginable, he'd learnt to close himself off. But then a new captain arrived turning the house into a better place and the team into some semblance of a family. Slowly over time he began opening himself up to the possibility he could live his life on his own terms.
He began socialising with his colleagues more and eventually found the courage to come out. For the first time in his life everything was calm.
And then their new probationary firefighter Evan 'Buck' Buckley showed up and threw a spanner in the works.
OR: Where Tommy slowly develops feelings for Buck while they work together over the years.

Summary
Mrs. Young smiled. “As teachers, we don't get to sit down and talk one on one with each child as much as they deserve. This assignment always grants me a beautiful insight to my students. Their proudest accomplishments, their darkest moments, or even some facts I've never known.”
She lifted a hand to her heart. “So with that, I would like all of you hear from one of the most beautiful essays I've had the pleasure of reading, from one of the-” she sighed. “-funniest kids I've met. Please welcome Christopher Diaz.”
...Christopher smiled into the microphone. "My name is Christopher Diaz. Here's my essay."
"Dear abandoning dead Mom."
The silence from the audience was deafening.
"Oh god." Eddie whispered beside him.

Summary
“South Bedford? Isn’t….” Tommy’s a little breathless when he speaks, his lips kiss-bitten and shiny, and it takes everything in Buck not to preen like a fucking peacock about it. “Isn’t that Eddie’s place?”
Buck hesitates for half a beat. “It––It’s a long story,” he mutters, the words thick in his throat. He’s not interested in talking about Eddie’s move right now–– frankly, he’s not interested in anything that isn’t Tommy’s mouth back on his. Right this fucking second, please and thank you.
