You're startled into a jump when you hear Isabeau’s voice to your side, delicate and hesitant like you might break if he says the wrong thing. To be fair to him, you might. “Uh, hey, Sif? Can I ask something? About the stars?”
The coarse grass rustles as you flip onto your side to look at him and nod.
He flushes dark as though he hadn't expected you to agree. You don't know why. You always talk about the stars. “Okay! Well, it's just that I always see you look back at this same spot in the sky a lot when we're out at night. Is there something significant about it?”
…You do? You never noticed. Isa really is observant.
“I don't know,” you reply, feeling dumb. Isa points, and your eyes naturally follow towards a section in the sky. It's the one you were just looking at. There's something there. But you can't see it. You can't remember its name.

You became inseparable from her saliva, digestible paste sliding out the gaps between her teeth and down her jaw as she laughed, sloppy, ugly snorting travelling into and around and through you. She scraped you from her skin with those same clawed, corrosive fingers, left dark gashes where the tips of them dipped below her skin.

Summary
You drown in rushing water, and show up in Teyvat. You are present, the “traveler” is not. You wonder if this means you must take their place, but an average human from Earth can not match up to whatever the traveler is. Not in strength, not in kindness, not in geniality. It takes crawling out of a hole of self-hatred and shaking hands to come to the conclusion that you were never meant to take on the destiny of a hero.
(A mouse can’t ever put a bell on a cat’s collar; Sometimes the most favorable task isn’t achievable, no matter how much you beg to be different.)
The fic is set to take place during the entire first main quest in Mondstadt. It is book one of two, if I believe in myself hard enough.

Scara has lived life under the assumption that everyone else's moods have their own opinions on things, and everyone needs another name sometimes. Layla approaches Scara with a book and a hope that she can help him where she was failed. Scara doesn't want that help. Someone else does. Sethos helps him unravel the tangled mess he never knew was there, and in it he finds himself and more.
Or, alternatively: it's all fun and games until there's more of you! An exploration of how messy self-discovery can be when there's more than one self, written from experience.
