“Oh for God’s sake not again,” Charlie bangs his head on the table lightly, groaning loudly. “Is your soulmate blasting Tiktok pop songs in your head again?” Tao spared Charlie a glance, his face contorted on a tight lip whether to be amused by his friend's predicament or to be empathetic from the mental torture.
Alternatively: A soulmates AU wherein soulmates can voluntarily (or involuntarily) share songs. Unfortunately, Charlie’s soulmate would have pop songs blasted in his mind at random times of the day more frequently than what he’d hope for. (See: Imogen gets Nick to help her record tons of Tiktok videos on repeat. It’s easy to connect what happens next every time.)

Summary
In a world where first touch is how people establish who their soulmates are, physical touch is not commonplace amongst most people. It’s not weird for two people to have known each other for years, and have never touched, and rarely, if ever, do people touch when they first meet.
It’s not because people don’t want to find their soulmates, rather that it’s seen as something deeply intimate, meant to be shared only between family, close friends, and soulmates.

Summary
One of the first things Nick Nelson does when he learns how to write letters is take a pen to his arm and scratch a shaky Hi onto his arm.
Learning how to write his letters was something he’d been looking for for weeks, and so when his little Hi gets a bright red marker scribble around it it makes his heart absolutely explode, and he runs to show his mum when she comes to pick him up because “Look mum! She responded!”
or, Nick Nelson operates under the impression that he'll end up with his soulmate, and she'll be the love of his life, until he realizes that she doesn't exist.
