When you didn’t answer, his hands moved to roam your body in search of injuries. Your mind could only interpret it as a continuation of Hawkins's threatening groping and prodding. You closed your eyes, in total dissociation. It felt dreamlike, as if you were only imagining him touching you.Series

Bruce didn’t respond. He looked at him skeptically before putting his hand over Clark’s, pinning it down to the table.

Bruce eventually made his way back to the ring. The Graysons were already in black bags. The newly-made orphan was on a gurney near the exit of the tent surrounded by paramedics and police officers, one of them Gordon. Bruce walked slowly, eyes glued to the scene. Just before he passed, the Grayson boy looked at him.
He immediately thought of Mitchell’s son. The silent pleading, the fear, anxiety. Even though it was years ago now, he’d never forget the catalyst of that long Halloween. He stopped in his tracks and stared. The emotions that surged up caught Bruce by surprise, because he was reminded of himself too—the night Gordon had talked to him.

His jaw set and he thumbed through pages of the book. She didn’t think he’d answer until he finally met her eyes.

“Joker,” she murmured.
Anyone else would’ve missed most of what passed through Jason’s body, but she caught it all: the wince, the twitch in the lips and fingers, the halted breath, the goosebumps, the dilated pupils, the absolute and utter terror that rose to the surface before he packed it all back in. She was, rather morbidly, quite impressed he was able to keep all that locked away. -
