Summary
She wears her emotions like her long beige trench coat, unbuttoned and wide open: a visible accessory to all her many layers, a suit of vulnerable armor. Heart on her sleeve, as the saying goes.

Summary
“So,” Mom says one weekend afternoon as she and Robin stare down the Sunday Times crossword, huddled together on the porch swing, “you and Steve Harrington sure have been living in each other’s pockets lately.” She puts down the pen and gives Robin a carefully-probing smile disguised as a teasing one. “Anything you wanna tell me?”
Yeah; I’m gay, Robin thinks. Her throat constricts painfully. “I—you’d know if I were dating someone,” she says instead.

Summary
They care, Steve repeats to himself. They care. People care about him. It’s not ideal, but it’s something. He can work with it. Nobody’s ever been voted Prom King after they had a breakdown in the parking lot during study hall.
-
Robin hates boys. This guy’s voice sounds just as annoying as her crying does, though, so at least it isn’t just her being victimized by the bathroom tiles.
-
Steve and Robin have always had something in common. It just took them a while to figure it out.

Summary
Robin probably cries in front of Steve. Nancy can't really picture Robin in tears, but if she and Steve are so close then she must be hiding some vulnerability, something soft and fragile that Nancy just can't see. Steve loves her, understands her more than he ever did Nancy.
Something is different, and she ignores the taunts of Nancy Dre-ew that rise unbidden from the back of her mind as she once again grips the steering wheel like it's personally offended her, driving a little too fast for Hawkins roads at night and ignoring the rumble of the car in favor of focusing on the facts in front of her.

Summary
“I’m not trying to kill myself,” she snaps, sounding far more snippy than she means to, and immediately shuts her mouth.
He seems unphased, though, and she swears there’s snark in his tone when he replies, “Oh, sorry for assuming, Miss Standing-on-a-Ledge.”
Steve and Robin meet officially for the first time in December 1984 instead.
