Wilbur groaned and let his head crash into the soft pillows below, “But I don’t know what it is! I just- I keep feeling like- like there’s something off. Look at my nest!”
Phil glanced around. Yep. It was a bit bigger than before.
“I keep expanding it! Phil, please, I can’t get sick. Not right now.”
Phil and Techno laughed, causing Wilbur to look at them with confusion, “What?”
“Oh, mate. It’s very clear what’s happening.” Phil said with a grin.
Wilbur tilted his head in question.
Phil’s grin turned into a smirk, “You… have fledgling fever.”
Wilbur’s eyes widened and he scrambled up, getting stuck in the blankets and nearly falling over while Techno cackled.
“No!” He squawked, “I don’t have fledgling fever!”
Phil continued to smirk, “Oh yeah? Hm, let’s count up all the signs: you’ve been feeling like something is missing, even when your entire family is in your nest, you’ve expanded your nest for some odd reason…”
Or, Wilbur gets fledgling fever and Tommy just so happens to be the child his instincts attach themselves to. Oh, and he's human.

Summary
Tommy spends the better half of the hour observing the people coming in and out, and listening to the music being performed. The music was nice, most of it sang in an accent Tommy has never heard before, but it was nice. It reminds him of Wilbur, of the songs they would sing around the campfire back when Tommy was a soldier, of the lullabies in the quiet moments when Tommy was a brother.
Tommy had come to this town— had got in a boat and traveled until he was sick of the ocean— looking for Wilbur.
OR: Tommy goes to utah to look for his brother

“Wait,” Wilbur calls, and Tommy stops but doesn’t turn around.
“What?”
“Why do you keep coming back if you don’t like the apples?”
Tommy turns to face him. He gives Wilbur a small smile and shrugs. For a moment, in the shade of the apple tree, he looks much younger. He wraps a hand around one of the fence posts and heaves himself up, swinging over the fence and disappearing into the orange glare of the setting sun.
