Chapter 24
Sonic The Hedgehog vs Sonic The Hedgehog
BOOM!
Two Sonic booms that could rival Present Mic's quirk echoed throughout the ears of the stands. Immediately following up the audience felt a shockwave of wind pass by them from the sound barrier being broken twice at the same time.
Down below on the field two blurs of blue raced towards each other head on at breakneck speeds. The two Sonic's met at the center of the arena flying by each other for a split moment before they both sharply turned around simultaneously and brought their legs back. Using the given momentum and energy from their prior speed the two Sonic's brought their legs up and sent a blinding kick towards each other. Their legs collided.
KABOOM!
A massive shockwave tore itself through the stadium, in result of the collision large cracks formed and spread across the ground outward from the two Sonic's at the center.
The jumbotron screens hanging above cracked as nearby glass and windows shattered from the shockwave. Many of the audience members cried out and had to duck and protect themselves from the falling glass. Some even using their quirks to do so. Many cars that were parked outside began to go off, blaring loudly.
Present Mic and Aizawa both instinctively jumped out of their seats as the windows to their booth in front of them exploded into many bits of pieces. Present Mic had a stunned expression on his face before he reached and grabbed for his microphone.
"HOLY MOLY! NOT EVEN A SECOND INTO THE MATCH AND WERE ALREADY HIT WITH A DEVASTATING SHOCKWAVE! WHAT A START TO THE FINAL SHOWDOWN!"
Down below on the ground the two Sonic's legs were held up high and locked against one another. It was like the blue hedgehogs were testing their leg strength against each other. Sonic flashed his teeth with a smirk at his younger self.
"Not a bad start you would say right Maurice!?"
Classic Sonic's leg shook against Sonic's. He clenched a fist as he returned the smirk to his future self with a nod.
Sonic smiled. "Good! Since we were given a bit more leg room. Let's up the show than!"
The older blue hedgehog jumped back before he sent another fast kick forward. Classic Sonic bent back dodging it before Sonic rushed him with a punch. Classic Sonic's eyes slightly widened before he managed to bring his arms up in time to block it, the force sent him back, his feet slid across the ground.
Classic Sonic lowered his arms as the two Sonic's of the past and future glared at each other from afar. Today would be the day the two will find out...
Who the true fastest Sonic was.
In an instant, both Sonic's blurred into streaks of cobalt light. Their speed tore into the cement ground as the two clashed around the stadium at high speeds. Shockwaves rung out down below all around the field representing the Sonic's collisions. All the audience members could see were blurs of blue moving around the entire stadium faster than what their eyes could process, generating harsh winds.
"OH MAN! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT'S HAPPENING DOWN THERE! I CAN BARLEY KEEP UP WITH THEM!"
Sonic dodged a punch from Classic Sonic before he attacked and struck him in the side. The action almost made his younger self trip over himself but Classic Sonic recovered and sent a kick towards the side of his future self's head, but Sonic blocked it with an arm.
With a grin Sonic saw an opening before he sent a clean uppercut into Classic Sonic's stomach. The young hedgehog felt the wind get knocked out of him as he was launched into the air and crashed into the ground. Classic Sonic gave a silent cough before he curled into a ball and began to charge up a spin dash before he shot forward. Sonic dodged to the side and sent another blinding kick at Classic Sonic who looped back. The younger sonic uncurled as his feet dug into the floor.
"Your fast little me! But let's see if you can handle this!" Sonic boosted ahead, the ground underneath his feet threating to crack. While Classic Sonic's legs spun as he charged up the super peel out before he blasted forward. The world itself seemed to be slowed around them as the two blue blurs appeared as twin lightning bolts circling each other. Their speeds so fast a vortex was threating to form.
The two rushed towards each other as Sonic jumped up to land another kick but Classic Sonic had slid under him using his smaller size to his advantage and returned the favor of that uppercut from earlier by throwing his foot into the backside of his older self. Sonic bounced off the ground before he recovered by flipping over and landing on his feet.
Sonic rubbed a gloved hand over his aching back. "Ouch! Can't say that didn't sting!" Sonic stretched before he heard a satisfying pop.
"But don't think that means you can start holding out on me little buddy!"
Classic Sonic smirked in response before the two clashed once more, their pace having been picked up. Instead of leaving behind a blur the two hedgehogs were moving around so fast they were seemingly blipping in and out existence around the arena as invisible shockwaves erupted out from random spots. The two Sonic's left behind afterimages of their fight as they traded blows.
"Oh man, I knew Sonic was fast...But he's been holding back this entire time, hasn't he?" Ojiro questioned.
"Without a doubt! Look at them go! My mind is spinning from just watching!" Hagakure exclaimed next to him. To her other side Mina wore a scared yet at the same time excited and giddy expression on her face as she watched.
Todoroki's hands which were resting on his lap began to grip tighter with each passing second while his breath shook. In his mind this...shouldn't be possible. Call him a sore loser for losing. Say he's just overexaggerating. Todoroki wouldn't care. Because he was damm sure the level of power being displayed to him right now was impossible, even with quirks. All his life his bastard father had him in books for his studies. Studying pro heroes and their quirks, especially All Might. As his father made it clear to him since his birth that was the only reason he had been born was to surpass him. Which is how Todoroki knew even he wasn't this fast.
The more and more Todoroki thought about Sonic the more it just wasn't adding up. His speed, abilities, his "Chaos Emeralds." How he seemed to be the only one who could notice the cracks? The question Todoroki was asking in his head would make him sound insane but...
Was Sonic and Maurice even human?
Sure, they were "Hedgehogs". But those were just the traits their quirks gave them. No matter how bizarre or alien a quirk made someone look deep down to their DNA they were still human. But then again why were they blue!? Hedgehogs aren't blue! So if they aren't humans then what are they? Only one person knew and he was sitting a few rows up ahead of Todoroki watching the match intensely.
Todoroki glanced at the green haired boy in thought. At first, he didn't care about what Sonic was hiding. But if he wanted to become the best then he might have to start to do a little digging.
His eyes then switched over to Bakugo who sitting on the other side of the stand alone. Even through his hoody Todoroki could make out his pale face which most likely has been like that since the match started.
"That would make two of us...We have a lot of catching up to do if we want to become number 1, Bakugo.."
"Oh man! So cool! I wish I could run that fast!" Uraraka beamed before she turned to Izuku.
"Right Deku?"
"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"
"Um, Deku?"
Uraraka only looked at the freckled boy confused who was muttering up a storm. So fast in fact it seemed like his words could keep up with the two Sonic's speeds. Through the muttering Uraraka could make out something about speed and age difference before she snapped her fingers. Breaking his trance.
"H-Huh? S-Sorry Uraraka! What did you say? Sorry I'm just so invested in this fight!"
"I-It's okay Deku!" Uraraka put her hands up. "I don't blame you since you're not the only one. But who do you think is gonna win? If they both keep going at it like this I think it'll end up being a tie!"
Izuku turned to her with a soft smile "That would be nice...B-But, I think I may have an idea on who's going to win."
Uraraka tilted her head at his answer. But before she could ask him about his prediction on who he thought was going to emerge victorious a shockwave from the fight rocked the whole stadium.
Both of the Sonic's jumped back from each other as their feet skidded across the ground. They both stood tall, panting although they weren't tired yet. A few marks and bruises could be spotted across their bodies from the attacks they've been dishing out to each other.
The two Sonic's grinned before the chase continued. They ran side by side around the arena slamming into each other like race cars. The two hedgehogs exchanged and blocked blows as they zoomed around the stadium. Sonic managed to land a punch on his younger self's face but not long after was slugged in the side.
Classic Sonic suddenly rolled into a ball and attempted to ram into Sonic but his future self hopped over it easily. As Classic Sonic continued to block attacks an idea popped into his mind as he eyed the interior wall of the arena which he was running next to. Just as Sonic jumped up to land a homing attack Classic Sonic dodged by jumping back and running sideways on the arena's walls. Matching pace with his future self.
Classic Sonic tilted his head sideways grinning down at Sonic who could only grin back with a chuckle. With his speed Classic Sonic leapt off the wall twisting his body midair before corkscrewing downwards to deliver an axe kick. With similar speed Sonic threw his fist as it impacted into Classic Sonic's foot. The force threw the both of them back, bringing their speedy battle to a halt.
Both hedgehogs got back up on their feet, Sonic wiped his mouth. "That was pretty sick! I'll award you some style points for that little buddy! But our fight isn't over yet! Time to take things to the next level!"
The battle continued as Classic Sonic lead the chase. The younger hedgehog was struck in the ribs but recovered by landing on the side of the arena's walls where he ricocheted off it into a spinning ball flying towards his future self.
But with his speed Sonic disappeared out of the way and tried to attack from above but Classic Sonic also managed to dodge. The two almost evenly matched Sonic's continued to clash around the arena, appearing as two streaks of blue light as giant columns of dust would explode into the air from their collisions.
Suddenly the two hedgehogs shot off into different directions before they looped around from opposite ends of the arena and made a B-line towards each other with accelerating velocity, the both of them blurring in and out of vision due to their speeds while they left behind two massive dust trails in their wake.
A glint of white light flickered at the center of the arena as the two Sonic's met head-to-head. Sonic and Classic Sonic glared into each other's eyes, foreheads against one another as they reached a stalemate. Both hedgehogs were locked in place while they're legs spun rapidly kicking up two columns of dust behind them.
"IT SEEMS LIKE BOTH HEDGEHOGS HAVE REACHED A STALEMATE IN SPEED! THROUGHOUT THIS MATCH THEY'VE BEEN EVENLY MATCHED WITH NEITHER ONE LOSING STEAM! I'M NOT SURE WHOSE GONNA COME OUT ON TOP!" Present Mic's voice boomed. The crowd roared as they watched the two Sonic's trying to overpower the other and break the stalemate.
"I think the answer is obvious."
Present Mic looked to the side, giving his best friend a curious glance. The sonic screaming hero turned his mic off before turning back to Aizawa.
"What do you mean Shoto?"
Aizawa had an intense look in his eyes. Not taking them off the match as he spoke. "Since the beginning of the school year we've been accustomed to believe that Sonic and Maurice are siblings who share similar powersets and appearances."
He turned to Present Mic. "However, it's easy to forget. But we now have been made aware that that's not the case. That instead they both are the exact same being, just from different time periods."
"Right...It's crazy. I still have a hard time believing it..." Present Mic spoke, scratching his chin. It had been a week or two since Present Mic and the rest of the U.A faculty had been let onto the world shattering secret that they were actually harboring two quirkless aliens from another world who could run faster than sound. Those two aliens also happening to be the exact same person who brought along a set of jewelry stones that held limitless power. Present Mic was still trying to comprehend it. That same day after their perception on reality was brought down to pieces. Aizawa and Present Mic both decided they needed a drink.
Aizawa nodded. "Whatever happened with this "Time Eater" that they mentioned on their world. It brought a younger and older version of Sonic together. And then brought them to our world."
"And that right there are our key words. Younger and Older. Maurice is just a cover name for the younger Sonic. And that's why he's going to lose. Because he's younger." Aizawa stated.
"H-Hey, cut the little guy some slack! He still has a chance to win!" Present Mic tried to say.
"Be realistic..." Aizawa said bluntly. "This would be the equivalent to putting myself up against my weaker, less experienced fifteen year old self who would just be starting his 1st year at U.A."
Present Mic gave a small sigh. "Yeah I guess your right...poor kid I was rooting for him because of his young age..."
Aizawa grunted with crossed arms. "The match might end in a minute, an hour, or it might take the whole day for the match to finish. But in the end the result will be the same...."
"Maurice was destined to lose this."
The two Sonic's continued to kick up dust behind them while they were still locked in their stalemate. Their arms were brought to their sides with clenched fists as they slowly pushed each other back and forth with their speed.
Sonic smirked with gritted teeth. "Let me tell ya something little buddy! You might know everything I'm going to do! But that's not going to help you since I know everything you're going to do!"
"Strange, isn't it?!"
With barred teeth Classic Sonic gave a silent growl as the blue hedgehogs pushed themselves to go faster before without warning they both shot up high into the air.
"UHH AND ONCE AGAIN WE RETURN TO THE SKY! MAN! WHAT'S WITH THESE KIDS AND GOING INTO THE SKY!??"
Kendo, the big sister of Class-1B. Slightly enlarged her hand before she put it over head to block the sun's rays so she could try to find the two airborne Sonics in the sky.
"Man, they're sure going at it. But it's hard to spot them up there with the sun in the way." She turned to Setsuna next to her. "Toka! You think you can give us some insight?"
Setsuna smiled, realizing what she meant. "Aye Aye captain!" She saluted.
The mossy green haired girl covered her left eye with a palm before suddenly her right eye popped out of its socket! It hovered as it checked around its surroundings before it took off into the sky after the blue hedgehogs.
"Woah...Spooky. And a bit gross.." Reiko muttered. The psychokinetic had made friends with Setsuna shortly after she had chosen her hero name. So she only saw her use her quirk a handful of times. Most of those being during the festival. But the eyeball was surprising.
"Yeah, but I think it's kinda cool! And if it helps us on knowing better with what's happening with the match, then I'm all for it!" Pony exclaimed with the clap of her hands.
"Maurice has been doing great so far, if anyone can take on Sonic and win. It's him!"
"You better be right, Tsunotori."
Pony's brows rose as she turned her head to Monoma who was sitting further down the row from her and Reiko with Kosei and the walking void Shihai.
Monoma wore a sly smirk. "It would be a huge shame if Maurice let us all down after making it to the final match only just to lose...I don't care if it's his sibling that he's facing. Having a member of our class win the festival instead of one of those skanks in Class A will show them not to think any little of us! Maurice is our classes last hope."
"Yeah! And will finally get the spotlight we deserve!" Kosei also pointed out.
"Right Shihai?!"
Shihai only glanced at him before he seemingly melted into his seat. "Don't drag me into this..."
"Hey! Sonic and the others aren't as bad as your making them out to be! I-If you got to know them then you'd know they're actually pretty cool!" Pony defended.
"Ah, that's right! How could I forget?" Monoma said, slapping a hand on his head. "Your friends with a few of them aren't you?"
"I guess that makes you a traitor, huh?"
A ping of annoyance and maybe even a bit of anger struck the horned girl. She was never that big of a fan of Monoma due to his ego and how rude he was during the 2v2 battles. But now he was just trying to irritate her. Pony wouldn't say he was a bully exactly. Just a really obnoxious guy who was waging a one-sided war on their neighboring class. But the worst part was that it seemed like half of her class was actually buying into his crap. Sharing his hatred for Class-1A and its students. How dumb could they be!?
With puffed out cheeks Pony was about to say something back before Kendo stepped in. "Do I need to come over there and knock some sense into you again, Monoma?"
A look of fear struck Monoma's blue eyes before he squeaked "No mam!" and turned away quickly.
Kendo continued to sternly stare at the back of his head before her face softened up and turned to Pony with a smile. "I apologize about him. I know he can be a lot of trouble. If he ever bothers you again don't hesitate to come to me, okay Pony?"
"Y-Yeah, thanks!" Pony gave a small smile before she turned her attention back to the sky.
"Monoma is right about one thing though...You're our last hope Maurice!"
Speaking of Monoma. The very blond was eyeing her from afar. For the phantom thief Pony and Maurice were at the bottom of his list for favorite classmates. Mainly just because they were the two he lost the mock battles too.
But for Maurice there was a very specific reason. Since the schoolyear started Monoma had been watching him from afar. His suspicions on him had grown overtime. For some very odd, and peculiar reason. Monoma's quirk refused to work on the blue hedgehog. Twice! First during the quirk assessment test and the second time being during the mock battles. For the first time Monoma just chalked it up to Maurice wearing gloves, as he needed direct skin contact to activate his quirk.
But the second time Monoma had placed his full palm on Maurice's head and yet still he couldn't copy his speed. He knew his quirk wasn't failing on him considering he had copied Pony's quirk with just a graze moments beforehand. So the question was, what the hell was up?!
"Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.." Monoma thought. His attention was then brought down to the stand below them where he could hear a few pro heroes talking.
"Wow! the little blue one is so young yet he's managing to keep up!"
"I know right! He's the one in Class-1B right? That whole class must have a lot of potential if he's with them!"
A smug smile crossed Monoma's mouth. He guess he could be willing to cast aside his suspicions of Maurice.
For now...
"Look alive people!" Setsuna shouted, gaining the whole classes attention.
"They're starting to come down fast!"
Sonic and Classic Sonic reached their max altitude before they began to fall back down to the ground fast. As they plummeted the two Sonic's exchanged a series of blows and punches. Sonic landed a jab to his classic self's face before he did a round house kick which Classic Sonic barley managed to block in time, the force from the kick pushed Classic Sonic away. The two hedgehogs glared at each other before they both tucked into a blue ball and began to spin. From there they rammed into each other multiple times over, again and again like two spinning saw blades.
The ground came as the two struck it, a spire of dust shooting into the air from the impact. The whole stadium watched and waited anxiously for the dust to clear. As it did everyone could see both Sonic's on their feet with no clear indication of either one backing down yet. Sweat trickled down the brows of the Sonic's as they breathed heavily.
With a confident smirk and in perfect synchronization. The two Sonics turned around before taking off towards different sides of the arena. They came to a stop before they faced each other on complete opposite sides. They got into runner's stances before...
BAM!
The two Sonic's took off like rockets, the floor tearing beneath their feet as they made a mad dash towards each other. A split second later they jumped ahead bringing their legs back before they both landed two devastating kicks into each other, their foots smashing into the other's cheeks. The terrain underneath them quaked upwards from the force of the shockwave before Sonic and Classic Sonic were thrown and launched backwards across the arena as they crashed into the stadium's interior walls.
Toshinori held onto his seat as the whole complex shook from the impacts. "Jeez guys! You both are gonna bring down the whole building if you two keep this up!"
Classic Sonic held onto his arm as he limped out of the hole in the wall. His panting was heavy. Classic Sonic didn't want to admit it. But he was starting to get exhausted, which was not usual for him. But, if you fight someone's who's literally you but from the future then that's what's probably going to happen. Classic Sonic wiped his chin, but his eyes slightly widened in surprise to see bits of red staining his white glove. He was bleeding?
"Getting tired Maurice?"
Classic Sonic turned in shock to find Sonic. He had a few marks and bruises here and there but overall he seemed fine! Was he not even a little bit tired!
"You still got a lot to learn if you want to become yours truly!" Sonic jerked a thumb at himself. In a blur of motion Sonic rushed forwards with a right hook. Classic Sonic tried to move out of the way but was too slow and got tagged.
Classic Sonic recovered from the hit before he sped into a spin dash to retaliate but Sonic dodged it. Classic Sonic uncurled but was then met with an overwhelming barrage of blows. Classic Sonic was struck in the side before he ate a kick to the chin and then another kick to the back that sent him crashing into the ground. The young hedgehog tried his best to defend himself but he just couldn't keep up!
Sonic then grabbed ahold of his past self before he slammed him into the arena's wall. The dust cleared as Sonic had Classic Sonic pinned against the wall with his arm. Classic Sonic gritted his teeth before he managed to kick his future self away with both of his feet. Ignoring the fiery sensation inside his lungs Classic Sonic charged forwards, throwing his right fist towards Sonic.
"Here's the first lesson buddy!" Sonic said as he easily sidestepped the punch, leaving Classic Sonic wide open for what he's about to do next.
"You gotta think faster than you run!" Faster than what Classic Sonic thought possible Sonic delivered a nasty kick into his younger self's stomach, his foot smashing into his gut. Classic Sonic bent over falling to his knees as he held his stomach. For a moment Classic Sonic was sure right there and then he was going to pull an Uraraka and vomit all over the floor. But he kept it in.
"OH NO! MAURICE JUST SUFFERED FROM A MEAN KICK TO THE BELLY! IT LOOKS LIKE HE'S STARTING TO SLOW DOWN! MEANWHILE HIS OLDER BROTHER SEEMS TO BE DOING A-OKAY!"
Present Mic was right. He was starting to slow down. How could he not? Throughout this whole match he had been struggling to keep up with his future self. There was no way he could win this! Sonic was just so much faster and more powerful than he was. How was he supposed to beat a version of himself from the future? Sonic had gone through and knew so much more than he did. He had speeds and moves Classic Sonic could only dream of having. One day he would. But right now? In the present? Not a chance. This was a match setup for him to lose from the start.
Classic Sonic placed his hands on the ground. He closed his eyes ready to accept his inevitable defeat. But then...
"DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP ON YOURSELF MAURICE!"
Classic Sonic's eyes shot open as his ears picked up the voice of a familiar friend through all the noise of the audience. Looking ahead towards his classes stand he could see Pony leaning over the guard rail with a few tears streaming down her face.
"YOU NEVER GAVE UP ON ME! SO I'M NOT GIVING UP ON YOU! I DONT CARE IF YOUR SLOWER ALL THAT MATTERS IS YOU TRY YOUR BEST AND GIVE THIS YOUR ALL TO THE VERY END!"
A few of Pony's classmates turned to the blond girl appalled. Reiko also looked at her a bit surprised before suddenly a very similar look Pony had in her eyes now possessed hers.
Reiko shot out of her seat as she gripped the railing in front of her. "SHE'S RIGHT! YOU SHOWED ME THAT I HAD A BELONGING IN THIS CLASS! THAT I BELONGED IN THE HERO COURSE! YOU SHOWED ME THAT I HAD A CHANCE! YOU HAVE THAT SAME CHANCE MAURICE!"
"SO DON'T GIVE UP AND WIN THIS!"
Classic Sonic was left momentarily stunned. Pony...Reiko...They believed in him. That despite the impossible odds he could still win.
"You can hear them, can't you Maurice?"
Classic Sonic's already widened eyes turned to Sonic who was smiling at him.
"Pony and Reiko aren't giving up on you. And neither am I! Which means you shouldn't either little buddy!" Sonic exclaimed as he got into a fighting stance. "So come at me with everything you got!"
"Sonic The Hedgehog!"
Classic Sonic stared at his future self as a quiet breath escaped his throat, his words replaying in his head. Once again Sonic was right. He might be stronger, faster, with Classic Sonic having no chance of beating. But the only thing that mattered was for Classic Sonic to give it his all.
Past. Present. Future...It didn't matter which era or time period Classic Sonic was from.
Because in the end a Sonic never gives up!
With his spirit and drive to keep fighting reignited. Classic Sonic dug his hands into the ground while his feet became a wild red blur behind him as he began to charge up the super peel out.
Sonic gave a smirk as he readied himself for Classic Sonic to attack at any second. "The super peel out again huh? Old tricks that I've mastered ages ago won't work on me! But give it your best shot anyway little buddy!"
As Classic Sonic built up speed, he closed his eyes. The sounds of the crowd became fainter as he cleared his head. His mind became a blank canvas.
"Young Maurice. You are powerful, yes. But it'll take more than power to rise to the top! When you go out there and fight, you must fight with your heart, courage, and for the people you love!"
He didn't know why. But Classic Sonic felt his heart ping as chaos energy began to course throughout his body helping him regain his lost strength and stamina. It was familiar yet it felt different. Opening his eyes Classic Sonic's black irises were now glowing blue before suddenly a blazing aura of blue energy engulfed him. Classic Sonic shot ahead like a streak of light his speed having been multiplied tenfold.
Sonic's eyes widened in shock as he was slammed into by Classic Sonic launching him away before he crashed and skipped across the ground before coming to a stop. Looking up Sonic was rather more shocked than he was in pain.
"D-Did you just...You boosted!" Sonic exclaimed
Classic Sonic blinked realizing what he just did. His irises returned to their natural black color as he examined himself before he jumped up and down in joy. He finally learned it!
"WOAH IM NOT SURE WHAT JUST HAPPENED BUT MAURICE SEEMS TO BE QUITE HAPPY ABOUT IT!"
From the stands Toshinori hummed with a smile. "Now you understand what I meant Young Maurice. You're not just fighting to win. But to grow into the best possible version of yourself."
Sonic chucked with a hand on his knee as he pushed himself off the ground. "All right then! Round 2 it is! Let's see what you can do now! Boost to Boost!"
Classic Sonic nodded with an eager grin as he began to focus on the chaos energy within him, feeling that tingly sensation flow throughout his body once more before he suddenly boosted forwards like a comet.
Sonic took off as a similar shield of blue appeared in front of him before the two Sonic's collided. The impact sent out a shockwave of blue light that washed over the stadium with most of the crowd having to shield their eyes. Sonic slid backwards, grinning. But was surprised as Classic Sonic was right in front of him! Flinching, Sonic brought up his arms to block expecting Classic Sonic to attack but Classic Sonic only smirked before he vanished and sent a high speed kick into his back.
Sonic grunted from the blow as he was thrown forward but managed to recover by flipping over. From there Sonic jumped into the air to perform a homing attack but Classic Sonic jumped ahead after him and landed a perfect kick that sent him crashing into the ground.
Sonic rubbed his head as he recovered from the blow. "Is it just me or has the boost technique made Maurice even faster!?" He thought as Classic Sonic landed back on the ground.
"Oh well, guess I"ll just have to keep pace!"
From there the outlines of the two Sonic's blurred as the two left afterimages. Classic Sonic with his newfound speed landed blow after blow but as he threw another punch Sonic caught it with his hand before it was like his form became a streak of light splitting into three mirages! All three were real as they began to attack Classic Sonic from different directions. Classic Sonic barley managed to dodge one of the mirages attacks before he charged up a spin dash and bounced off each illusion like a pinball gaining a perfect triple combo.
The real Sonic jumped back barley blocking the final hit before he curled into a ball and slammed into him. Classic Sonic bounced off the ground where he was then repeatedly slammed into by multiple homing attacks. But the blue hedgehog managed to escape by rolling away.
Like streaks of cobalt blue the two hedgehogs refused to back down as they clashed again and again around the stadium. Classic Sonic breathed heavily. Despite the extra energy the boost gave him from earlier he was already starting to grow tired again. But it seemed his future self was as well. Both hedgehogs were covered in bruises and marks as they panted heavily. It seems they finally reached the end of the match.
"What do you say Maurice! Care to give the fans a finally they'd never forget?" Sonic asked.
Classic Sonic nodded as he cracked his knuckles. Combining the super peel out and boost technique Classic Sonic shot ahead as he left behind huge cracks on the floor behind him while Sonic blasted towards him too. The air around the two warped as they accelerated towards each other before they threw their fists forwards. Classic Sonic landed a mean uppercut while Sonic punched downwards socking Classic Sonic right in the cheek. Classic Sonic crashed into the ground meanwhile Sonic was thrown up into the sky.
Despite the distance between the two the Sonic's locked eyes with another. Sonic curled into a ball as he launched himself back down towards the ground while Classic Sonic jumped into the sky after the falling hedgehog tucking into a ball as well. The two spinning balls of blue met in the air before a single explosive burst of light and energy rung out and filled the stadium, blinding the spectators. The ground on the field beneath the explosion shattered like glass from the sheer power of the shockwave.
"How much more can they go on like this!?" Momo exclaimed in shock. "One of them has got to give out eventually!"
The rest of the class was too stunned to speak as they watched and waited for the dust that the explosion created to clear out. Midoriya knew very well that the Sonic's could run and face opponents for very long amounts of time thanks to their stamina. But against one another he wasn't sure. One thing he did know was out of the two Maurice was the one most likely to fall first. Izuku had come to the conclusion ever since the matchup was announced by Present Mic. Maurice was just at a massive disadvantage due to his age. His body and speed wasn't as developed as Sonic's was. It was sad but it was the truth.
"THE TWO HEDGEHOGS HAVE COLLIDED ONCE MORE! THROUGHOUT THIS MATCH BOTH SONIC AND MAURICE HAVE WOWED US WITH THEIR SPEEDS! BUT ALL OF THIS DUST IS BLOCKING THE WAY TO SEE WHAT HAS BECOME OF OUR TWO TOP COMPETITORS!
Silence filled the air as those who were present or at home watched impatiently for the dust to clear. As it did everybody could see the two Sonic's standing across from one another. Both breathing hard, covered in cuts and sores with pained expressions on their faces. Classic Sonic's legs burned as he stood his ground. He had never been pushed so far before. He was sure that if he were to even take another step he would collapse. But he had to keep going.
His future self took a step forward, panting. Wiping his nose Sonic mustered up a smile. "Heh, N-Not bad....little buddy..."
What happened next made Classic Sonic's eyes widen as Sonic fell forward and collapsed to the ground in front of him, now completely unconscious. For the next few moments nothing but pure silence could be heard as everybody was processing Sonic down on the ground.
The match was over. The festival had found its champion.
"Sonic is down! I repeat Sonic is down! That makes Maurice our victor!" Midnight announced.
A couple of seconds of more silence passed before it was finally broken.
"NOOOOOOOOO!" Kirishima screamed in agony before it was followed up by the roar of the crowd. Their cheers so loud it shook the very stadium.
"AND WITH THAT THE FINAL MATCH IS OFFICIALLY OVER! THE FIRST YEAR CHAMPION OF THE U.A SPORTS FESTIVAL IS MAURICE HEDGHOG FROM CLASS-1B!" Present Mic's voice boomed once more gaining another wild cheer from the crowd.
Classic Sonic could only stand there in a state of bewilderment with his gaze lingering on his fallen future self in front of him. He...He won...
The blue hedgehog could only give a meek chuckle before he began to slowly fall over. The last thing he heard before his vision turned black was the cries of the crowd cheering and fireworks shooting off into the sky.
To be continued
Woah! A new chapter that didn't take 9 long months to come out this time!? There it is! We have our winner! Bet most of you are surprised while others saw this coming! Not only that but after 2 years we've finally made it through the sports festival arc! Lmao. As you can see this chapter is much shorter than the rest which was always intended. And there are some of you who said they prefer shorter chapters. But I've come to the conclusion that chapter lengths will be as long as they need to be. I'll try to have the next chapter out soon but will see! Stay tuned!
