Chapter Text
Day 9: Vintage – Flannel
Tonight Castiel was going on his first date with the gorgeous Dean Winchester. They had been texting back and forth for a few days and Castiel was only falling deeper for the farm owner. Dean made him feel things he hadn’t in what felt like eons. Tonight Castiel would find out if that feeling held when they were in physical contact without an audience.
Jack and Castiel lived in a duplex on the outskirts of the city. They shared the duplex with a nice older lady named Missouri Mosely. She’d become a pseudo grandmother over the years to Jack. Tonight Jack was having dinner and a sleepover at Missouri’s. His son had been excited because, “Mrs. Mosely tells the best stories and makes the best cookies.”
Castiel had dropped him off a little over an hour ago with the reminder that Jack must brush his teeth before bed and to call Castiel if there was any kind of emergency. Missouri had replied, “He will and there won’t be. You’re going to have an excellent night with your young man. Now get outta here and go get dolled up for your man.” She said, smiling kindly.
Now Castiel sat on his bed starring at his closet wondering what he should wear to “get dolled up” for Dean. He’d told Castiel to dress comfortable but nothing else. Dean wanted their first date to be a surprise. Finally Castiel settled on dark jeans, a grey undershirt and a black button up left open. He debated on whether to take his tan trench coat since the late October nights were getting chilly. He decided to take it with him just in case.
Castiel had just finished fighting with his hair when the doorbell rang. He took a deep breath before rushing to answer it. Dean was there wearing a red and black flannel, tight blue jeans and an open leather jacket. It wasn’t a whole lot different from what he was wearing when they first met and Castiel found that comforting. There was no pretense there, it was simply Dean.
“Hello Dean.”
“Hey Cas. You ready?”
“Um… yes… one moment.” He grabbed his wallet, keys and phone before slinging his trench coat over his arm.
“A trench coat, you planning on going streaking Cas?” Dean said, chuckling.
Castiel narrowed his eyes, “Not on the first date.” He replied deadpan.
Dean visibly swallowed, “Uhhh.. lets get going or we’ll be late.” The man seemed visibly flustered and Castiel couldn’t help but grin. Dean blushed so beautifully.
Apparently their first stop was dinner. Castiel left his coat in the car because there was still some warmth left as the sun went down. The place was called The Roadhouse and their menu boasted they had the best burgers in the state which Castiel found promising.
Castiel had been a little annoyed when the pretty blond waitress had hugged Dean and kissed him on the cheek. They had been sitting in silence for a moment after she’d left. Cas didn’t want to come off too strong so he swallowed down his jealousy and studied the menu.
“Everything alright, Cas?” Dean asked looking over the menu at him.
“Is she an ex-girlfriend?” Castiel blurted out.
Dean smiled, “God no. Jo’s my cousin. My aunt Ellen owns this place.”
“I’m sorry.” Castiel felt like such a fool for jumping to conclusions.
“It’s okay, Cas. I will say I find possessiveness a slight turn on as long as it’s not taken too far.” Dean said, nudging Castiel’s leg with his foot under the table.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” Castiel said with an arched eyebrow. Dean let out a breathy moan. “You okay Dean?”
“Yeah… just the dom brow looks good on you.” Dean blushed.
Castiel made the same expression again. “Noted.” He said as dominate as he could manage. It was worth the effort to watch Dean squirm.
Castiel can attest to the fact The Roadhouse does have the best burgers and rather excellent onion rings too.
Their next stop was a drive in movie. Dean bought enough snacks for an army. “Dean we just had dinner.” Castiel chided looking at the pile of candy and extra large nachos.
“I’m a growing boy.” Dean countered, flexing his arms to show off his muscles.
Castiel couldn’t help appreciating them but argued, “All I see is heartburn and diabetes in your future.”
“Live a little.” Dean admonished roughly but smoothed it over by kissing Castiel on the cheek. It was Cas’ turn to blush now.
They watched a collection of vintage black and white monster movies but Cas couldn’t tell you which ones. He was too distracted by Dean’s innocent touches, his smell and body heat. Castiel had to fight not to squirm as Dean’s proximity made his body react.
Dean was a gentleman though. Never pushing things too far. Castiel’s days of jumping in bed on the first date were over. He needed to take this slow because he had Jack to think about.
Dean walked him to his door and Castiel was sad the night was over. He wanted this feeling of being with Dean to last forever.
“Hey Cas, can I kiss you?”
“Yes.” Castiel said breathily. Yes that sounded like an excellent idea. The kiss was tender and slow at first but ended a little heated.
Dean pulled away like it took every ounce of willpower to do so. “When can I see you again?”
“Jack is spending the next weekend with my brother Gabriel. Gabriel likes to take Jack shopping for his Halloween costume every year.” Castiel explained.
“Awesome. Maybe you could come out to the farm and have dinner with me, Ben, and my brother Sam. Maybe go on a sunset ride.” Dean offered.
“On a horse?” Castel said with light trepidation. He’d never been on one before.
“Don’t worry Cas, I’ll pick a gentle one and I’ll teach you to ride. Maybe one day soon you can bring Jack and I’ll teach him too. Let him meet Ben as well.” Dean said with hope.
Dean sounded like he was seeing this relationship as long lasting. Castiel did too. “I’d love that.”
Dean gave Castiel one last quick peck on the lips before he was gone. That night Castiel’s dreams were filled with green eyes and hope for the future.
