Chapter Text
"It's okay, it's okay. Listen, I've got this-"
"With your arm in that state?" Alucard interrupted. Sypha nodded, backing him up.
"We're not leaving you to do this alone, Trevor. It's all of us, together."
"Or don't you want our help?" Alucard raised a brow.
"I never said that. I just-" Trevor ran a hand through his hair, the sweat and vampire blood making it stick up in little spikes. "This is different. This is Death. Or a spirit that feeds off of it, anyway. It's incredibly powerful-"
"Which is why we are helping you," Sypha insisted. "Honestly, I thought I trained you out of this during our travels."
Though she was trying for levity, she could feel the little wince Alucard promptly hid. With a stern look at Trevor, one she was certain he would properly read as both a challenge and an admonishment, she placed a hand on Alucard's shoulder. Feeling him stand taller from her support brought a new energy to her own body as well.
Trevor looked back and forth between them, then sighed. "Don't do anything stupid."
"Us?" Sypha asked, scandalized.
"I assure you, that is still your area of expertise," Alucard snarked back.
Despite Trevor's groan, he seemed more settled. "I mean it. You especially Sypha." Which was odd, and ominous (and honestly insulting, despite the endearing aspect), but she had the perfect solution for their nerves.
"Perhaps," Sypha suggested, "since we are going into a fight with something so new and powerful, we will need a kiss for good luck."
"A kiss-?" Alucard choked, startled, though he went easily at Sypha's gentle prodding. He still seemed shocked as their lips met; Sypha had to hold back a coo when he touched his fingers to his lips after they parted.
Trevor was blinking in his own surprise when Sypha pulled him in next, but he was familiar, and adjusted quickly enough to nip at her lips as they separated.
"Now you two," she said. Both seemed reluctant, but more shy than unwilling, going by the way they each eyed each other up and turned pink before looking away again. She coaxed them with, "Come on, we have an evil elemental spirit to defeat, no time for hesitations."
Trevor, surprisingly, was the one to straighten up, nod to himself, and reel Alucard in. When Alucard squeaked, Trevor paused, but it only took one peek of Alucard's tongue licking at his own lips for him to lean in. Their kiss was brief, but clearly enjoyed, given the way Trevor went beet red and Alucard's pupils dilated.
Sypha clapped her hands, startling them both.
"Let's kill a god."
The fight started out alright; With the three of them working together, they were an incredible force to be reckoned with. Unfortunately, whatever unholy magic sustained the death spirit remained unflagging, untouched by their efforts.
Then Trevor pulled out the damned knife.
While it did take out the spirit, the toll it took from him before Alucard tackled and pulled him from range was significant. Sypha held him up carefully as he coughed, blood spattering the ground.
"You're fine," she said, desperation creeping up her throat and into her voice. "We won, you're safe now."
Trevor chuckled, spitting more blood. Alucard, busy supporting his other side, trying not to jostle his burned arm too much, clicked his tongue. The worried look he shot Sypha didn't match the sound at all.
"Do try not to die before we reach my mother's lab."
"Doing my best," Trevor wheezed.
"And keep your blood inside your body."
"What, this isn't doing it for you?" Trevor coughed once more, spitting a little glob of congealed red. "Huh, fangs?"
"Disgusting. You are lucky to be alive, after that stunt."
"Must've been that kiss." It became clear Trevor was just saying whatever words came to mind, since he froze up immediately after, his expression of shock and embarrassment matching Alucard's so well that Sypha managed a small chuckle.
"Flirt later. Right now, you're getting healed, and then you're not getting out of bed for weeks."
"Is that a promise?"
Sypha rolled her eyes at the insinuation, but noticed Alucard eyeing the both of them even as he pretended to focus on their destination. Hmm. Might require some more intervention there. Eventually.
For the moment, Sypha was glad to have both her favorite people whole and (soon to be) hale. Running a thumb over Trevor's arm and sneaking a hand further across his back to pat Alucard's, she knew the rest would work itself out in time.
