Chapter Text
Izaya would describe Shizuo as a lot of things. A monster. Protozoan. Pretty? Maybe. Especially like this.
Izaya pulled on his pockets and considered revealing himself or not. This sight was rare. He didn't want to ruin it.
Shizuo was leaned against a wall, already littered with fist-sized holes. He had his head in his arm. And he was crying. A gasping, shuddering thing.
It was pretty. Those tears falling down his face and dripping down his chin. His eyes squeezed shut as he sobbed and gasped.
It was almost like Shizuo was human! The monster would probably kill him if he knew he was watching.
Not that Izaya was scared! Far from it. But he did decide to turn around and leave.
“Izaya.” It was less of an enraged shout and more of a cold anger.
Izaya still became light on his feet, his sweater bouncing as he grabbed his knife. It was all instinct.
Shizuo hadn't chased after him. Shizuo had barely moved. He wiped his face and only succeeded in smudging his tears across it. It was… pretty… “I don't have the energy to deal with you today, flea. Get out of here.”
Hmm… Izaya didn't like that. Izaya didn't like that at all. “I've never seen a monster cry before,” Izaya purred. He learned that Shizuo was less receptive to his teasing when he was already upset. That was alright, Izaya was determined. “I wonder what kind of simple things have to go wrong to make a protozoan upset… All out of milk? Stub your toe?”
“I said get out of here , Izaya!”
Yelling, that was progress. “Without you chasing me away? We can't break tradition, Shizu-chan!”
“I swear you search for me when you enter Ikebukuro.” Izaya tilted his head. “Why do you wanna get your head smashed in so bad? Why do you get off on me chasing you?”
Izaya gasped. “Rude!!” He danced a step back, waiting for Shizuo to follow.
Finally, Shizuo sniffled, took his time rubbing the last of tears, and pushed off the wall to give chase.
