He could hear it even now from the darkest corner of his little enclosure. The sound being studied. Of being recorded. Of being watched. Yet, even under the blackest shadows of his anguish, burned in his chest an ember of light. It was neither the gentle glow of hope, nor the bold shine of pride. A weak little smile crept across his muzzle, revealing a set of sharpened fangs. Today was the day he'd set aflame the monsters that entangled him, and burn their house of evil to ashes.
Twin fox-tails twirled, slowly weaving and brushing each other as the thought soothed him, stoking the flame within. The fires of vengeance had awakened.

It doesn’t matter how much water he shovels down his throat or how many painkillers he takes despite it probably being an unhealthy amount. But the pain just won’t go away. It’s like he needs to constantly be in pain over such a little thing.
