"To put it in polite terms – Maurice Hall was a fucking mess. He’d spend days at his ex-boyfriend’s estate just to get away from his mother’s worried looks. In hindsight, wandering alone in Clive’s home was probably making the spiral worse. Especially since Clive often ignored him in favor of networking with his father’s politician friends during the day. Then at night, would sneak into his guest room and lament about their relationship, why it would never work, kiss Maurice’s hands, and then ramble about his fiancé and how nice it was to love a woman. Maurice endured it for a while, wanting to salvage the one friendship that meant the most to him."
This is my attempt at a Modern AU for Maurice by EM Forster. Not everything is a one for one comparison between this fanfiction an the original - mainly because I wanted to take some artistic liberties. This is all meant to be a fun 'what if' project!
