Summary
Chief Inspector Thursday had noticed that in the absence of young Constable Morse, work at City Police had been resorted to a glacial snail’s pace. As a result he afforded Jakes the evening off to try and convince Morse to rejoin the force by any means necessary. Anticipating attending one of Joss Bixby’s lavish masquerade balls, Sergeant Jakes finds himself getting swept along, and the evening ends with more than what he bargained for.
