Was it day or night?
Neither Loid nor Yor knew due to the dark, heavy clouds gathering in the sky, showing strong chances of rain. Loid turns to his wife while holding Anya in his arms.
But when he was about to speak, a shrill scream rattled the family to the bones. For it wasn't a scream of someone young seeing a dead mouse, it was a scream of a child seeing someone they knew is dead.
They didn't think, they moved.
Loid "That scream couldn't be too far away, so it has to be somewhere close by!"
Yor "It sounded like a young girl's scream, I just hope she's not hurt."
Anya uses her power only to hear the girl's thoughts of longing for her mommy and daddy.
Anya "Papa, I think she's in there."
Anya points to a canal bridge where a second canal holds the water while the gravel canal is for heavy floods.
Time Skip
By the time they got there, they saw another person walking in. From what they can see, it is the same girl they saw earlier at the Anteiku Café, Touka.
Loid 'She looks to be a high schooler. But what is she doing in a place like this? Wait, did she hear the scream too?'
Yor 'She couldn't be the one who made that scream. Could she?'
The girl walks over to a figure sitting down against one of the support pillars.
Touka "You okay?"
The figure flinches as she clinches something in his or her arms.
Touka "Hinami... What is that you're holding?"
Hinami "It's my... mom."
All Anya could hear was her parents' thoughts as they questioned themselves; who would do such a thing to an innocent child? And if that wasn't enough, they continued to hear the girl, Hinami, about Ghouls and the world living like this and then said something that made their hearts ache.
Hinami "Can you please send me there? I want to see her again. Please let me go to her!"
Loid didn't know it, but his body moved on its own, hugging his daughter while Yor joined in hugging her daughter with all the love, comfort, and protection the two of them could give to Anya.
Their moment ended as another sound of wet footsteps echoed. They turned to see a man with a sickening grin and wild, insane eyes.
Time Skip
Everything started so fast that the three Forgers couldn't keep up with what was happening.
The man started talking about how Touka's attempts were pathetic and how he was close to having the whole Fueguchi family together once more.
Loid and Yor told Anya to say where they were hiding, while they were about to confront the man themselves. Only to stop to see Touka revealing herself as a Ghoul, as she fights the white hair man.
Loid "So that's what these people meant by Ghoul."
Yor "Does that mean they eat actual humans?!"
Just when Touka had the man down, she spoke to him. Asking if he ever knows what it feels like to be hunted for no good reason. The confusion and fear. And the rage of having someone close to you is butchered?
As Touka speaks, the family thinks about their past.
The time of war.
The time of their missions.
The time of their test.
The time of their assassinations.
They can understand where Touka is coming from because that is a fear that neither Loid, Yor, nor even Anya what to have come true.
Time Skip
Just when it couldn't get any worse. The man pulled out another weapon and explained what the weapons were made out of to the two ghouls taunting the poor girl, while the Forgers remained hidden.
The Man "Well? You recognize it, don't you?"
And what he said next made something in Loid and Yor snapped.
The Man "IT'S YOUR BELOVED MOTHER! QUINQUES ARE MADE FROM THE KAGUNES OF YOU GHOULS!!"
Hinami let out a loud cry of pain at seeing her mom and dad's Kagunes being used as weapons.
It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what a Kagunes is, seeing it as an extra-powerful limb for ghouls. To use the limbs that once belonged to Hinami's parents as weapons is crossing the line.
Loid pulled out his gun and pointed it at the deranged man.
Loid "Don't move!"
Time Skip
There were so many questions, but there were no answers given.
Loid and Yor drop their facade as they attack the man with everything they have. The man, Mado, shouts at them to be ghouls as well, but the two shoot back that they weren't and that they don't care what he thinks about them. All they care about right now is that he is more of a monster than the Ghouls.
Loid "If the world is striving for peace by eliminating an entirely different race..."
Yor "Then that makes you a weed of evil to the world."
Mado didn't believe a word they said. Instead, he knocks them back, breaking a few of their bones in the process.
Anya "Mama! Papa!"
And then that bastard went after Anya.
Loid and Yor "ANYA!!!"
Time Skip
No one knew what had just happened. One minute, Mado was about to attack Touka, who was pinned up against the wall, while holding Hinami and Anya hostage. The next second, his Quinque was gone. And so was his hand.
Suddenly they hear someone sobbing. Loid and Yor look at who is standing a few feet away from them, it was Hinami. Holding Anya safely in her arms, she set the pink-haired girl down as the little child ran to her mother and father.
It was then the family saw Hinami's Ghoul side at full power.
Hinami "Stop it! Don't hurt Touka and this family anymore! And don't use my mommy and daddy like that! IT'S WRONG AND I WON'T LET YOU!!"
Hinami unleashes her attack as she bashes and whips everything around her to get at Mado.
Mado lets go of Touka as he blocks the attack and claims that he wants it and to make it into his new Quinque!
But that only caused him to lose a leg. Literally.
Touka then says to Hinami to finish him off, but Hinami refuses and tells Touka that she doesn't care about taking revenge against this man and that she's just sad.
Mado, still not going down, grabs his Quinque to kill Hinami. But before Touka could strike him, Loid aimed his gun and shot Mado in the chest.
With his wife and daughter by his side.
Loid "You're not taking anyone else's life away."
Mado gasps out his wishes not to die just yet, not after he takes out the one-eyed ghoul. Yor throws her long dagger spears at him, directly into his neck. Choking on his own blood, Mado said his last words.
Mado "I can't die... Not... Yet."
