Dick was only nine years old, just a fledgling really, but his Momma and Daddy said he was already the best flyer in his year. They said that someday, he’d be an even better flyer than them. It was exciting, he couldn’t wait for it really. Of all the things he could do, it was flying that was his favorite. He was confident that, even when he got his magic, flying would always be his calling.Although his parents had a different opinion about that.
“It’s easy for Angels to forget.” Momma’s voice was soft as she combed through Dick’s hair. “Humans are beings we are sworn to protect. We have a mandate, a responsibility to them. They are weaker than us, and that is why we must protect them.”
