Everyone knows but you

Summary:

After the Crackstone attack Enid’s brothers are acting weird around her. She knows they are trying to avoid something and that they have this secret they are keeping away from her. She just can’t figure out what it could be. But with all the emotions of breaking up with Ajax, missing deeply Wednesday and having to deal with all the new Werewolf abilities she got, there is no time to figure out what her brothers know that she doesn’t.

Or

Enid’s brothers know she is gay and Enid is just trying to figure out what is going on with her life.

Or my take on the Sinclair siblings and their adventures over the break.

Notes:

Sorry for the names, I know they would get confusing but I promise the names are there for a reason.
A little guide is
1-Ethan
Oldest, he already graduated. Short curly dark hair.
2-Evan
1st triplet. Smartest one.
3-Elliot
2nd triplet. Tripping most of the time.
4-Eric
3rd triplet. Anxious and always moving. Bleached highlights.

Also I’ve only ever done a one shot so I’m new to this.

Chapter 1: Before the next full moon

Chapter Text

Since wolfing out she has noticed the changes. One would assume she is talking about the physical and mental changes that come from wolfing out. The growth spurt, her senses becoming sharper, the weird feeling in her chest that something is not right like she is missing something... or someone, the muscle pain, the sweatiness, well you get the idea she is having a lot of changes.

But she was those expecting changes. What she didn't expect was the changes in her brothers. She knew her mom would be absolutely thrilled for Enid to have finally wolfed out, heck she was probably finally her daughter after years of being only the disappointment. But it's her brothers who act the strangest since she wolfed out.

Every time she ate with her siblings they would all act weird. They couldn't retain eye contact, they stumble when referring to her or about her, they give her these weird looks, they are suspiciously more quiet and more important they all avoided talking about the Crackstone attack. She knows her brothers, she knows they would normally not shut up and ask her everything about it.

Ethan, her oldest brother, would ask about how she feels being the little hero of Nevermore. Evan, the oldest triplet and the calmest one, would ask about her scars. Elliot, the dumbest triplet, would ask her to repeat the Hyde battle over and over again. Eric, living embodiment of exercise, would have challenged her to a "real fight". But not one of these things has happened and she wonders why.

The first moment she realized something was wrong was at Nevermore waiting for their parents and older brother to arrive.

Normally her siblings would avoid her since all they do is roughhouse and fall victims to their animalistic tendencies. (she really didn't want to start scratching herself like a dog with lice or start to act like she has never experienced being a human, falling everywhere and looking at everything dumbly with nothing in her brain.) So the sudden dumb gazes from her brother being directed at her rather than whatever object is shiny and bright makes her feel like she has done something.

"Want a picture?." She snarls at Elliot. The way to differentiate the triplets, outside of their different levels of dumbness, it's in their hair as Elliot has medium long curly brown hair and. But he clearly has been hanging out with gorgons, as he is right in front of her looking down with the dumb look only weed can bring to someone.

"Ew why would I?" He scrunches his note in disgust.

"Well, clearly you want something."

He looked like he was about to talk but the other two triplets stopped him, quickly bringing him down to the floor in-front of her. Before she can complain about how they could have almost dropped her too, all three of them freeze as they look past her.

"Thing wanted to say his goodbyes."

The cold tone of the voice immediately gave away who freezes her brother's antics. Wednesday. Only she could stop 3 dumb werewolves from following their dumb nature.

Smiling and doing a little jump twirl, she turns around to see the glory of her dark roommate.

"Weird since I already said my goodbyes to him."

The grin in her face from having caught Wednesday's bad attempt at disguising her true intentions makes the seer's eye twitch slightly, the indication that she wasn't very happy at being caught.

"Well I suppose I wasted my time here. Goodbye." taking a big dramatic sigh while looking like a kid being caught stealing candy, Wednesday turns to go to her family before Enid grabs her wrist.

"No!—,"she cursed herself for screaming. "I mean don't waste your time. We can say our goodbyes again."

"I already did." Wednesday stares intensely at Enid.

Enid's heart starts to go crazy with the way Wednesday is letting her grab onto her wrist. While they have been inseparable the past days it doesn't stop Enid from feeling warm and fuzzy every time Wednesday and her share a moment of closeness.

"No silly, that was hardly a goodbye," she giggles nervously. "We have talked about this, a simple goodbye is good when it's short term goodbye, but a better goodbye is good for long term goodbyes."

"We would see each other in a couple of months, Enid, there is no need to make a fuss," Wednesday clearly understood months differently than Enid.

Sight."Well maybe for you it would be just a couple of months but for me it would be like a goodbye forever." She does a dramatic sad face to heavily emphasize her point.

Not really having expected a verbal response from Wednesday she feels like she is going to faint with the physical response from Wednesday. She is hugging her. It's not a good high. Wednesday's back is stiff, her arms don't fold around Enid but are awkwardly at her side barely putting any pressure. Enid is in absolute ecstasy, she immediately jumps into hugging Wednesday properly.

In a trance-like state Enid stops all logical thoughts and lets her body do as it sees fit. Her face ends up in Wednesday's neck, she rubs her cheek against the bare neck more hard and fast than it normally should. Wednesday has to hold onto Enid firmly as to not fall from the force of Enid's actions. Enid starts going up slowly as she makes her way to have her cheek against Wednesday's, oh how she loves this, the smell of Wednesday mixing with her own, the intoxicating smell of ink and lime combining with her forest and flowery scent. This is how they both should smell, this is how their homes should smell. This is how life should smell to Enid.

"Damn she's really' going ham" Elliot snaps Enid out of her trance.

This is when she realizes what she has done. She had scented Wednesday. Oh god she had scented Wednesday. Enid starts to panic when she catches Wednesday's gaze, Wednesday seems to be overwhelmingly shocked as her eyes are bigger than normal, her bangs are slightly disheveled from Enid rubbing her face, but most importantly Wednesday isn't mad about this, she is even holding onto Enid. But it still brings panic in Enid.

"Omg I'm so sorry Wednesday," Enid goes to fix Wednesday's bangs, her hand slightly caresses Wednesday's jaw and cheek.

"Do not fret Enid," Wednesday pulls back from her hold on Enid. Slight blush filling in her face while she starts to walk backwards. "I initiated the hug knowing your tendencies to make a simple hug into a big moment of physical affection."

"It still doesn't excuse it," Enid pulls her hands to her back, trying to hide her claws coming out from panic. Or maybe because her wolf wants more scenting.

"Enid, I don't mind the suffocating feeling of being gassed by your perfume." Enid smiles at this.

"So what you are saying is that you like me scen– hugging you," Enid isn't sure if Wednesday knows the difference between a hug and scenting.

"I never said that," Wednesday as stoic as ever she doesn't give a hint to Enid what her emotion must be.

"Enid!," and like everything in Enid's life, this moment gets ruined by her mother.

"I have to go Wednesday," Enid says in a hopeless way. Trying her hardest to convey how miserable it makes her to leave her. "I guess this is our moment for final goodbyes."

Wednesday takes off her leather backpack, opens up a zipper to reveal a large black cardigan. She takes it off and throws it at Enid. Enid could already get whiffs of Wednesday's scent.

"I heard werewolves feel comfortable with the smell of home," For anyone but Enid, Wednesday probably sounds condescending and irritated but Enid knows Wednesday is nervous, she is avoiding visual contact and her breathing is normal (something that is un-normal for Wednesday). "I would not like to speak for you, but for me our dorm has become my home. So I hypothesized that my cardigan may be of help for you, if you become homesick."

Enid's eyes feel like they may burn from holding tears, Wednesday was giving away something of hers for Enid to do as she pleases just because she wanted to give Enid something that reminded her of home. Of her.

"O. M. G, Wednesday this is so nice," Enid is about to jump for another hug.

"Pipsqueak time to leave," Ethan, Enid's older brother who doesn't go to Nevermore, interrupts them while putting an arm around her shoulders.

"Goodbye Enid," Wednesday eyes linger on her as she slowly starts to backtrack and finally turn around to start going to her family.

Enid wanted more, the goodbye wasn't enough, neither was the ones before or the hug or even the cardigan. Enid needed Wednesday. Something inside of her wanted her to run to catch Wednesday, to finish her scenting. But she can't, she must go home, but she could have had more time had her stupid brother not interrupted them.

"Don't you have better things to do than just coming to ruin everything," she moves her shoulders to throw away his arm abruptly. She walks straight to the rented car, avoiding all calls from her brother as to why she was so mad with him.

After a long ride to the airport filled with amazing conversation about how happy her mother is about Enid finally wolfing out, they make it to the airport.

"Since it hasn't been long since your first transformation, it would be better if you get yourself and your wolf as relaxed as you can in the airplane," Ethan, the older brother, is the one trying to help Enid with her new anxiety of airplanes.

He looked similar to the triplets, tall with brown hair, but his face always made Enid question if he was related to the triplets. Ethan has lines in his face from smiling, his eyes are blue like Enid and Eric, but Ethan's were burning not with joy like Enid's but with determination. But another way to distinguish him from the triplets is his taller height and his short dark brown curly hair.

"Why am I so agitated, I'm normally okay with flying," Enid's hands are shaking, her body is tense, her insides feel cold and her back feels like she is sweating but she isn't, but more importantly she wanted Wednesday.

"That's because your senses are still higher than a normal human, since your transformation was just a couple of days ago your body is still trying to get used to being a human," Ethan is kneeling in-front of her touching one of her knees, she is in the last row of seats at the airport with her knees to her chest and forehead to knees, she feels the panic raising in her, so much she forgets she is mad at her brother.

"I'm scared Ethan," Enid looks up from her knees, her brother's eyes tenderly looking at her.

"Come here," Ethan opens his arm and Enid jumps at them.

Ethan starts rubbing his face on Enid's top hair, moving to her forehead and then cheek. He was scenting Enid trying to calm her down, she can't deny it was helping but that also meant he was taking away the smell of Wednesday off her.

"No, stop," Enid doesn't want to sound mean but it was harsh that she just rejected his offer.

Ethan looks at her confused, not only did she stop his attempt but she went to her bag and took out a black cardigan. Once Enid puts it on she subconsciously brings the sleeves to her nose. That's when Ethan realized the color wasn't her sister's usual color.

"Whose cardigan is that?," Enid panicked.

"It's mine," She hoped Ethan didn't know all of her clothes.

"I've never seen you wear a solid black piece," curse her unique fashion style.

"It's new," he can't argue with the possibility of her new fashion sense.

"It looks like it's from your room—,"

"Is Enid done panicking?," bless her mom for always interrupting everything.

"Yes I'm better," Ethan gives her a look but she just grabs her bag and starts walking to her other brothers.

"It's that a new sweater?," she hears her mom ask Ethan.

"She got it at Nevermore," Enid has never been more thankful Ethan is an amazing liar.

"You can't just ask bruh, that's insensitive," Enid hears on her way to the living room. It's her brother Evan, his judgy tone and flat tone give away the fact he is probably correcting one of his triplets stupid comments. Evan has always been the smartest of the 3.

"It's in fact very sensitive," Elliot responds in a mocking way. Elliot is the triplet who doesn't need weed to act like a stoner.

"Dude I don't even think you know what insensitive means," Eric is out of breath joining Evan in judging Elliot. Eric is the one always moving, he is of less words since he is constantly out of breath but he was the one who still tried to fight Enid even if she didn't wolf out.

Enid finally makes it to the living room, expecting them to continue and ignore her like they normally did. But unfortunately for her they aren't acting normal.

"Dude shut up," Enid hears Evan whisper to Elliot. Enid believes they don't know she can now hear their whispers, thank you wolf super hearing after transformation.

"Enid whatcha you doing here," Eric asked while he stopped working out in the living room.

Eric was the buffer one of the triplets, but thanks to the uniform his muscles are always covered, which meant the only way to distinguish himself from the other triplets was to have longer hair and bleached highlights.

"Mom's going to be mad if she sees you sweaty doing weights on the couch," Enid says ignoring his question and going to sit on the couch, she really doesn't know why she is here.

Ever since leaving, Enid has been feeling reckless and anxious, like she is forgetting something and she can't figure out what she forgot. The feeling has been eating her inside as she stays in her room wearing Wednesday's cardigan, which she has discovered helps her with the anxiety. But with all this recklessness she has been unable to respond to Ajax messages and it has been bothering her that she dreads having to text her boyfriend,

"Mom's at aunt Olivia's house, so unless you snitch she ain't finding out," Eric stands up beside her on the couch, trying to intimidate her. Enid secretly appreciates that about him, always treating her like her other brothers even before she wolfed out.

"Dude she ain't scared of you no more, she fought a Hyde....," Elliot is the first to crack, he realizes he has brought up the forbidden subject when the other two triplets look mad at him.

"Fighting a Hyde ain't the same as fighting me, I could have beaten that Hyde if I had wolfed out," he starts to flex, his tank top showing all his arm muscles.

"Key word if you had, but you didn't," Evan mocks him.

Evan is the oldest triplet, but that doesn't help distinguish him from the other two. While Enid could figure out which one is Evan in a lineup, even without the hair, thanks to his almost neutral expression and lack of emotional response other than smirks and surprise dramatic faces, it didn't meant other people could distinguish him from the other ones. So his hair while brown and curly like his brothers, is the shortest of the triplets, but not as short as Ethan's.

"Ain't my fault it was a blood moon and only miss kitty over here seems to be able to wolf out in a blood moon," Eric seems a little upset about her being able to wolf out in the blood moon, he pouts like a little kid throwing a tantrum.

"Who the fuck are you calling miss kitty?," Enid didn't like cursing much, she preferred to be unique and creative with curse words, but she knows that's the only way her siblings understand.

While Enid liked to call herself a cat and make reference to cat-like things, she knows her brother is using it as an insult rather than how Enid uses it.

"Oooh she's mad," Elliot says, teasing her and Eric.

"I can call you whatever I want pup," Eric tries to stand strong and intimidating, so Enid joins him. Since her transformation she has grown quite a bit, not enough to be at level with her brothers but enough to be able to stand up and not be completely overshadowed. Another benefit of wolfing out is more defined muscles, so she stands tall and blows her chest trying to imitate Eric.

"Oh you picking a fight you can't win Enid," Eric tries to intimidate her with eye contact but she lives with Wednesday, she has become immune to death stares.

"Try me," and so he did.

Eric goes to knock Enid football style, cursing him for being the only one who played that sport, but she finds she has quicker reflexes and is able to put her feet apart and recline herself towards Eric, making it so she doesn't fall and can fight for dominance against him. But this ain't enough, in a game of strength Eric is stronger than Enid by much, and she eventually would loose if she keeps on doing this, so she decides to play on her own strength. Speed.

Enid quickly moves to the side away from his grasp before Eric can react he is falling to the floor. Remembering the fights between her brothers she goes and sits in his back putting her arm around his neck and pushing it together with her other arm.

"Oh! She got you Eric," Screams Elliot in the back, trying to cheer for Enid and mocking Eric.

Before Enid can enjoy her victory, Eric turns around throwing Enid against the floor where he proceeds to do the same she did to him.

"Not bad for not being a fighter," Eric playfully mocks Enid, she knows he means it in a sibling way rather than hating.

Enid starts to feel a bit suffocated, she knows this is playing and her brother is just doing this as a game and would inevitably let her go but something inside of Enid turns on and her fight or flight instincts kick in.

She feel her hair grow, she hears the loud heavy growl that comes out of her, her claws now stabbing her brothers arm, the blood falling of his arm as he rips it off her hold and starts to back off, she hears her brothers trying to calm her down but they sound so distant everything feels so distant. She sees Eric smile as she stands up and throws herself at him to try and bite his neck but he is fast and holds up his forearm for her to bite, her fangs are growing and she can feel her jaw closing on his arm.

"Enid, no!," she feels the strong hands of her oldest brother in her jaw crushing in for her to open. Which she did.

"Enid it's okay he isn't hurting you," but Enid still hears him so far away.

"He isn't going to hurt you or Wednesday," Ethan whispers in her ear. The acknowledgment that she and Wednesday were fine brought her out of her trance.

Enid stops fighting. She just realizes that she was fighting trying to get off Ethan's hold, he has his arms around her abdomen holding her arms against her body. She feels tears down her cheeks.

"It's okay Enid you are fine," this time he doesn't whisper in her ear, he says it out loud for her other brothers to also hear.

Enid sees Elliot and Evan stare at her shocked, maybe a little scared, then she turns to see Eric on the floor right in front of her, his arm is bleeding and you can see the clear marks of teeth. Sudden realization makes her realize what she did.

"Omg I'm sorry," Enid says between sobs and tears. She can hear hiccups. At this moment Eric goes to stand up and that's when Enid can smell and see the blood, and while she did fight Hyde and she was the one who bit him she passes out at the sight of so much blood.

"It was an accident mom, the fight got a little out of control and she happened to come by," She hears the distant voice of her brother Ethan.

"I thought better of you Ethan," her mother's voice is disappointed. "How did the fight get so bad your brother is getting stitches?!," Enid can feel herself get tense at her mother's anger.

"You know how it is, mom. Eric and I just got a little too mad and didn't think much of injuries," Ethan's voice is calm, almost condescending and manipulative trying to belittle the fight.

"I would have been less mad if it was only you and Eric the ones getting hurt, but look at your sister!," she can hear the worry in her mom's voice.

"You know she doesn't know how to handle blood, she came down after hearing the fight and just passed out after seeing Eric's arm," Enid knows he is half telling the truth but even knowing the whole truth she kind of believes him. Ethan has always been a good liar.

"I don't even know why I argue with you anymore, you never listen to me. You always try to make me the crazy one," Her mom has clearly given up in trying to make Ethan feel bad about the situation. "Just stay here with her till she wakes up, I'm going to check on your brother."

Leaving the room Enid finally starts to open her eyes, feeling more safe now to do so.

"How much of it did you hear?," Ethan is looking at her, he is giving her that brother look, the one that makes her feel safe.

"Unfortunately not enough to understand what is going on," Enid goes to put her palm on her head, she is getting a headache.

Looking around she notices she is in her bed, the posters and colorful drawings adorning her room may actually give her the worst headache. Is this what Wednesday feels with so many colors?

"I told mom it was me and Eric who fought, she would have been mad at both of you if she realized the truth," Ethan says calmly while passing her a pill and a bottle of water. "For the headache,"

Enid takes it. The silent moment made her remember everything. She attacked her brother. She is a monster. Why did she lose control?

"Oh gosh I'm so sorry," Enid feels the tears about to fall from her eyes, she has hurt her brother.

"No Enid, it's okay, he is fine, he started it, none of these please," he goes to clean her falling tears, similar to Wednesday Ethan is horrible with tears, he would always try and do anything to get her to stop crying.

"I hurt Eric. I didn't mean to Ethan," Her sobs mix in with her words as she tries to portrait how bad she feels. "I don't know what happened to me."

Ethan goes quiet, his hands fall from her face and he stands up. Enid thinks he is going to leave as he now hates Enid for being a monster. Instead he goes to her desk and grabs the black cardigan from her desk chair, throwing it back to her.

"Enid. When I was little these kids were making fun of us at the park, they tried to fight you and I got in the way. They obviously beat the shit out of me and then also hit Evan," he sits at the edge of her bed next to her, sadness in his voice as he avoids looking at her. "I had never been so angry, so I fought, not very good but I did. I thought that was the end of it, I fought in self defense and I did the right thing. But these things don't go away, every little moment I felt someone may hit you guys or me I would go crazy and lose myself," he does this weird movement of his hands around his head. "I realized it's a trauma response. Most people get them after a traumatic event but us werewolves are specially susceptible to them after fights. Especially the ones fighting for our loved ones, we get into this state of wolfism that just follows our animal instincts to fight," he finally looks at her, putting his arm on her blanket cover knee.

"I became unrecognizable over a kids fight, I can't imagine what it must be like to fight for your life, the life of your roommate and of the whole school," he gives her knees little taps, just how he did to make her sleep as a little kid. "Plus consider yourself lucky, you seem to be able to wolf out without the full moon."

Enid is surprised, not only by her brother's story and vulnerability but at the fact she is now suffering from a common case of trauma response in werewolves, but she can also wolf out without a full moon.

"What?," she thinks she may have misheard.

"You can wolf out without a full moon, I was hearing your bones crack before I was able to calm you down," Ethan gives her a big smile like he didn't reveal something nearly impossible. "Buts it's very rude of you to focus on the one thing about you after my vulnerable speech."

Enid heard his joking voice, he was clearly trying to lighten the mood after such vulnerability.

"Why talk about a sob story when I can talk about how badasss I am," Enid, one to always try to lighten the mood, joins in on his jokes.

"I should have kept the sob story to myself then," Ethan exhales deeply, making a dramatic attempt at being sad and destroyed. "And here I thought a shared experience may help you deal with yours. My therapist lies to me."

Enid giggles at her brother's theatrics. While she may not be as close to them as she was before not wolfing out she still appreciates the moments they get to be like this, close as siblings once again.

"It did, thanks Ethan," she sits down and goes to bump his head a bit, it's something pups do as little ones to play around (she was close to a head injure many times) and appreciates when he returns the gesture.

"I will always be here for you if you need it Enid," Ethan smiles as their foreheads stay together. "Also don't feel bad about Eric, he totally deserved it for starting a fight with you. Plus I think he likes the new battle scars, and says it may make him just as punk rock as you."

"I think he needs to dye his bleach highlights to be just as punk rock as me," Enid giggles glad that his other brother won't hate her after this.

"I think he would rock pink," Ethan jokes.

"That's my color, he would rock purple."

"That's just a combination of your colors," Ethan laughs.

"That would mean he is the lower version of me."

Ethan and Enid laugh. Enid realizes she has Wednesday's cardigan in her hands and holds onto it hard, waiting for her brother to leave so she can put it on and imagine she is with Wednesday right now.

"Don't I look cool as fuck," Says Eric showing of his bandage arm, that he is moving more than he was told to.

"Language Eric," Mom mutters between bites.

"Dude you aren't probably going to get scars. Werewolf healing," Evan says mad, they have been hearing about Eric's injury all dinner.

"If Enid got cool scars so would I," Eric says, mad at Evan.

Enid can feel her dad's eyes on her, every time someone brings the subject of her scars her mom and dad would give her a sorry look, probably thinking it's a touchy subject. Enid doesn't mind her scars, while they do remind her of the feeling of fighting for her life, it always leads to the memory of her hug with Wednesday.

"I'm 100% sure Enid's scars were deeper bruh," Elliot charms in, finally saying something reasonable.

"I ain't taking your opinion, your dumbass used to think the earth was flat," Eric answers mockingly at Elliot.

"I was a kid and the YouTube video was good at lying."

"The video was persuasive Elliot, that's what it's called when something can persuade you into believing something," Evan, always the smart one of the 3 tries to once again mock Elliot's intelligence.

"I would like to see you try and persuade me not to punch you," Elliot goes to fake punch Evan.

"Boys enough!," they all turn to Esther. "Was the fight today not enough for you? Stop it, we can't go to your aunt's house again today."

Aunt Mary was a practicing nurse, sometimes it was better to go to her than a hospital. A lot of hospitals didn't have people who understood werewolf healing and how certain injuries heal differently depending on the werewolf. So many complications and nuances in werewolf anatomy lead to the fact going to aunt Mary's house was better than a hospital.

"Sorry mom," Say all 3 of the triplets, while they may fight and try to be intimidating they had no backbone when dealing with mom. Contrary to Ethan and Enid.

"Enid dear, are you feeling better?," the conversation topic confuses everyone. It's not normal for her to ask Enid much when she is quiet.

"Yes mom," Enid wants to feel happy, this is all she wanted, her mom caring so deeply for her but it hurts to think she may not have been this caring if she still hadn't wolfed out.

"Good, I can't have you fainting over blood anymore, we gotta get you used to it," Esther says as she goes back to her meal.

"Mom she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to," Ethan stands up for her today.

"Nonsense, she needs to be ready for the hunt," Esther brushed it off.

"Maybe I don't want to hunt," Enid states, slightly mad.

"Enid, it's an important part of the werewolf—,"

Enid's ringtone stops the conversation, she looks and sees it's an unknown number from New Jersey, she knows it's likely a spam call and that she shouldn't answer unknown calls but there is a small part of her that hopes it's Wednesday, the only person she knows that lives in New Jersey.

"I need to take this call, I'm done eating," and so Enid runs out of the table, she sees the ever present eyes of her brothers follow her.

Once Enid is on the stairs to the second floor she answers the call.

"Hello?," Enid asks, still holding onto hope.

"Greetings Enid," Enid trips on the stairs on her way up.

"Enid are you okay?!," she hears her mom from the table.

"Yes!," Enid screams back a little too happy than she should be.

"Omg Wednesday!," she says just as loud as her response to her mom. She knows even without werewolf hearing they would have heard her all the way to the table.

"Did I interrupt something? I wasn't aware what time you would finish supper," Wednesday says emotionless but Enid knows the simple fact she called her means she cares.

"It's okay, we had a weird schedule today," Enid finally arrives at her room and locks the door behind her, she doesn't want to deal with her family right now.

"May I inquire why?," Wednesday asks, knowing Enid liked to go on rambles about her day.

"I will tell you after you tell me how you are calling me,"  While Enid should probably not test Wednesday's little patience she is too curious to really let it slide.

"I'm afraid desperate times call for desperate measures," Enid can almost hear the face of disgust she does.

"So you are that desperate to talk to me?," Enid is mainly teasing but she is genuinely curious.

"I do find myself missing you... deeply," The last part was quiet, almost as if Wednesday is spilling a great secret.

"I find myself in the same situation, I was so close to calling the school and asking for your address," Enid starts kicking her feet in the air, she always like the dramatics of a classic teenage girl pose.

"I'm afraid my security would have gotten you before you made it to the door."

"I was thinking more on the lines of letters," While she did dream sometimes of just taking the next train to New Jersey and asking for the nearest goth family, she knew it was more realistic to send letters.

"I wasn't aware you knew of such things, I'm under the influence you don't know anything that isn't... trendy," Enid can hear the teasing tone of Wednesday, the joking of her voice, the tenderness of it all.

"Letters are actually quite aesthetic Wednesday."

"Yet another word losing all meaning to the collective ineptitude of the masses."

"That's how language evolves Wednesday. The collective masses change the meaning of words."

"Doesn't mean I agree with their changes," Enid laughs. Oh how much she has missed this, her roommate and her snarky comments, Enid losing herself in her voice, the play-fighting. But all the joy goes away when she remembers what happened today.

"Wednesday I'm afraid I'm a monster," Enid abruptly changes her tone to a sad serious one.

"What calls for this abrupt change of topic?," She hears the worry in Wednesday's voice.

"I was rough housing with my brother when he put his arm around my neck and I lost myself Wednesdays. I couldn't think properly, something in me went back to the Hyde, to fighting for your life, to the instinct of fight or die," Enid stops as she feels the tears falling again, the memories of the fight with her brother and the fight with the Hyde merge a bit in her mind, not hearing a response from Wednesday she continues. "I bit him so hard he had to get stitches."

Wednesday kept quiet for a while more until she answered. "I thought werewolves played rough."

"It's not the same Wednesday, I went absolutely crazy. I wasn't myself, my oldest brother had to stop me," Enid remembers Ethan's words correctly, she has been using them as a mantra 'He isn't going to hurt you or Wednesday'. "My brother Ethan says it may be a trauma response from the Hyde attack."

"Enid, sometimes I find myself waking up with a dagger in my hand ready to fight. Had there been someone in my room I would have stabbed them," Wednesday says a little shaky, almost scared. "You were in a situation where you relieved a very traumatic scene. I do not see you as a monster, I see you just as before, the same girl just deadlier claws."

Enid giggles a bit. "I had never hurt someone this bad before, how can I be the same person?"

"Enid you are eating yourself over this. A monster would have been proud of winning the fight, not of the damage they had caused," Wednesday says firmly, the same voice she uses when answering questions in class, always correctly.

"I miss you Wednesday," Enid truly does, she knows her brother had helped her but Wednesday's words hit Enid differently, because she knows Wednesday would not lie to her anymore.

"I find myself wishing for your company too," Wednesday, always the cryptic one.

"Why don't you tell me how your summer is going?."

Enid proceeds to hear all about the Addams family shenanigans.

Enid and Wednesday couldn't stop calling. At some point they ran out of things to say but neither of them hung up, Enid appreciated the sounds of whatever hobby Wednesday was doing, while Wednesday appreciated the random rambles Enid would go in while watching her videos.

"Enid, I swear I'm going to rip my ears off if I hear any more crackling of a machine or that awful classical music," Elliot says dramatically, pulling on his ears while calling her out.

Enid was in the kitchen backing cookies when her headphones died so she put Wednesday on speaker, as it was only her and Elliot in the house and she didn't expect him to come down at this hour. Guess she was wrong.

"The sounds of a typewriter are quite relaxing actually and also classical music is good, but I've been listening to only a cello dumbass," Enid gets slightly mad trying to defend Wednesday's amazing hobbies.

"Well stop it, it's giving me a headache," Elliot goes to get closer to her, watching as the cookies are ready for the oven.

"You can just go to your room wearing headphones and stop bothering me."

"I can't leave now until I get a cookie," Elliot stands behind Enid and puts his chin above her head, why does he have to be taller than Enid?.

"These cookies aren't for you Elliot," Enid punches his stomach with her elbow.

Elliot does a dramatic puff of air, folds in half touching his stomach where Enid hit him and falls to the floor exaggerating the hit.

"Drama king, I didn't even punch you that hard," Enid rolls her eyes at his brother's antics.

"Enid, would you like me to end our communication?," Enid had totally forgotten Wednesday was on a call with her, she panics as she sees her brother freeze and look at the phone.

"And who may be on call with Enid?," Elliot stood up quicker than he should, running straight to grab her phone.

"It's none of your business," she tries to get to it first but he is fast when he wants to.

"O. M. G, you are calling with the creepy girl," Elliot pulls her phone up laughing knowing Enid is too short to grab it, she should have gotten more height after her transformation not muscles.

"She isn't creepy.... I retract that she is but not in a bad way," Enid would not jump for her phone, she isn't fighting him and she has nothing to hide.

"I never said it in a bad way Enid," Elliot continues laughing, "but I do love her contact name. black heart emoji, black heart emoji Wends, black heart emoji, pink heart emoji."

"It's her nickname dumbass and only I can call her that," Enid starts to get mad, no one should call Wednesday Wends. That's her thing.

"I think it's basic Enid, couldn't you come up with something better? I mean I like the hearts but you need something more romantic," Wednesday coughs on the other side of the line after the last word.

"It's cute," Enid starts to get genuinely mad with her brother.

"Whatever you say, if I had a pookie like her I would give her a better nickname." Elliot pulls his arm down and Enid immediately jumps to stealing her phone back.

"Well good thing you don't, you would give them a bad nickname," Enid retorts, turning away from her brother and pulling the phone close to her chest. "Also no cookies for mean brothers."

"I wasn't being mean!," He dramatically expands his arms to his side. "I was being honest. It's not my fault the truth hurts."

"I'm going to end you," Enid is heavily annoyed now. "Wednesday I will call you later, sorry we had our time interrupted."

"It is okay Enid, I understand annoying brothers," Enid giggles at Elliot's gasp and his hand on his chest like he actually got hurt.

"Bye Wends. I will miss you," Enid whispers that last part but she knows her brother likely heard, curse werewolf hearing.

"Until our next communication Enid. I will miss you too," Wednesday also whispers the last part.

The phone call ends and Enid goes to put the cookies in the oven. 10 minutes of baking and they would be done. She turns to face her brother who is again going on about nonsense.

"Ugg that was annoyingly sweet, I don't think I can handle cookies anymore, I may turn diabetic with all this sweetness."

"Run Elliot," Enid stands there still mad in front of her brother.

"What?," Elliot finally pays attention to his sister and sees that mad look in her eyes, so he runs.

Enid follows Elliot around the house for all 10 minutes it took for the cookies to be done. She didn't catch up to him not because she couldn't but because she liked the little play between them. She missed playing around with her brothers like they were kids again.

Enid's brothers were losing their minds. Their fists up while screaming at the top of their lounges, which was making her sensitive ears hurt. She got the hype of supporting a game but gosh was she never this crazy.

"Ethan you are the best! I love you for this!," Eric, still screaming, bumps into her to hug Ethan. With Ethan stumbling as they almost fell to the floor from the momentum.

"I originally just wanted to take Enid, mom made me take you three too," Ethan tries to pull Eric off his side, pulling on Eric's long curls.

"Still best game ever!," Eric goes away from Ethan and goes to chest bump with one of his triplets.

All 4 siblings were in hockey jerseys, the triplets in gold and white ones while Ethan and Enid in blue ones. She looked around and saw everyone in either of the two colors, families smiling as they walked to their cars or men screaming in agony at their team losing. Enid herself was happy, her team had won. Go sharks!.

"You guys lost," Ethan states after the San Francisco bulls did in fact loose.

"Yeah but we still got to watch it," Elliot jumps in to defend his triplet.

"Whatever," Ethan turns to Enid, both wearing blue face paint. "What would you like to eat in Enid? Downtown San Jose is around the corner and I'm sure they have a lot of stuff."

In her hype she almost missed her brother's question. But how can she be paying attention when she was having so much fun with her brothers, having a Sinclair sibling trip.

"Mmm can we have Mexican food?," Enid asks.

"Isn't your pookie Mexican?," Elliot stops roughhousing his brothers and asks Enid.

"Yeah what about it?," Enid's nose scrunches at the nickname Elliot has given Wednesday, she doesn't appreciate it.

"Aw, are you trying to get Mexican food because of her?," Evan bats his eyes at Enid, using a baby voice to mock her choice.

"No I'm not!," Enid defends herself.

"Guys stop, you are out of Vermont, this is California. Mexican food is in every other corner," Ethan jumps in between Enid and the triplets, he gives them a look to quiet down which leaves Enid confused. She likes that her brothers shut up but this doesn't feel like something Ethan would try and stop, it was normal teasing.

"Whatever. I'm up for a burrito," Evan rolls his eyes and goes back to pushing his brothers.

After much discussion and debate over what place they should go to, as well as figuring out the online menus to what place have everything they would want, they finally make it back to the car and on their way to their house. Enid being the only girl was allowed to have the front passenger seat, as to not be cramped with the triplets in the back, and being in the passenger seat came with the privileges of being the dj for the trip and play her music.

"Enid if you put one more sad love song I'm going to jump off the car," Evan rumbles while trying to pull on the locked car door handle.

"They aren't all sad!," Enid has been trying to keep the sad songs or kpop songs to a minimum knowing her brothers' distaste for either of the genres.

"Yeah Evan, Paramore is just emo, doesn't mean they are all sad," While Enid appreciates the support, she is still slightly annoyed at her brother Eric's bad assumption of her music.

"Well I prefer Enid's taste over either of your tastes in music," Ethan opened his hand while holding the steering wheel.

"You just prefer Enid over us," Elliot complains, fake hurt.

"Can you blame him? You guys are annoying," Enid says at the shock of her brothers.

Cutting in his brother's next train of thought, the screen of the car rings as a notification pops in it. Enid panics as she sees it's a message from Ajax that all 4 of her brothers are reading right now. She had completely forgotten that connecting her phone to the car meant they could see her notifications on the screen, so now all 4 of them saw Ajax pretty much beg for her to take him back, after she had broken up with him over text a week into the summer.

"Men these days," Evan shakes his head in disappointment after reading Ajax's message. "They get so desperate."

"Why is Gorgon guy begging in your dms?," Elliot pops his head from the side of the car where he was sitting, so he was now with his elbows in Evan's lap, the one who was in the middle back seat.

"It's nothing," says Enid just as another message comes in and it's Ajax asking if they can call, a common thing he asks but that she always rejects. She isn't in the mood to call him.

And why would she?. I mean she broke up with him, that's a clear sign you aren't on the best terms with someone. Like of course she still wants to be friends with him still but right now she is still trying to process the breakup that she created.

"Why are you ignoring your boyfriend then?," Eric charms in from the seat behind Enid.

"He isn't my boyfriend anymore," Ethan stops the care abruptly in the middle of a lone street.

"He isn't?!," Ethan is extremely shocked, a suspicious amount of shock.

"What the fuck Ethan you could have killed us!," screams Enid after the seatbelt saved her from going head first off the front glass.

"Wow Enid and here I thought you were a player," Elliot shakes his head in what seems to be disappointment at Enid's admission of having no boyfriend.

"Why?," Enid is confused, they almost crashed and her brothers are acting weird over her breakup.

"We just thought you were still with him," Evan comes to his brother's rescue and tries to divert the situation.

"I broke up with him 2 weeks ago," Enid feels ashamed of this. She pretty much was when she texted Ajax about how she didn't feel comfortable being romantic with him, that their relationship felt rushed and that she may have misinterpreted her platonic admiration for him into romantic feelings.

"Damn," Elliot emphasizes in the a. " I knew you were a player, breaking up with a man over text," Elliot nodded, once again happy at Enid. She is confused as to why he would be proud of that.

"Wow Enid I thought better of you," Ethan shakes his head in the disappointment Elliot should be feeling.

"Yeah Enid, I can't believe you would break up with someone over text," Eric also shakes his head in disappointment. "That's like rule number one of not being a bitch."

"I couldn't keep dating him! I stopped feeling good over our relationship. It got to a point thinking of our relationship just made me sick!," Enid feels shame in her soul as her stomach twists just at the thought of the romance in her ex relationship. "I couldn't lie to him all summer and my only option was texting him."

Enid feels horrible. She almost begged him to date her and now here she was feeling sick just at the thought of dating him, Ajax clearly didn't deserve Enid. He didn't deserve to have a girlfriend like Enid, she really hopes he is able to find someone better, someone who won't be sick of him.

"Hey it's okay Enid,"  Ethan pats her head. "High school relationships are messy."

"Yeah just remember Ethan's ex-girlfriend," Elliot says, making everyone shake a little bit.

Ethan had a very crazy ex girlfriend from Nevermore who became his stalker. He broke up with her before the summer but she was convinced he was her mate for life and started to do ritualistic courtship behaviors that were outdated for werewolves. Enid passed out seeing the bloody cardboard box in their front steps. Even Esther thought it to be inappropriate to send a dead rabbit over mail.

"We never talk about Brenda," Evan says, shaking a bit.

The week leading to a full moon made everyone a little squeamish. Enid had never gotten to feel this but she now understands why her siblings acted the way they did around the full moons.

"Enid where are your manners stop that," Esther says from the living room, aunt Olivia next to her while they drink their morning coffee.

"My body it's all itchy and sweaty," Enid keeps scratching her back against the corner of the wall. Her arms are tired and the wall helps a bit.

"Let her Esther, it's the full moon jingles. You know how pups get before a full moon," aunt Olivia was the older sister of her dad and most of the time a mediator between Esther and everyone else.

"I was much worse during my firsts full moons," Ethan ever the older brother charms into the living room defending her sister.

Enid doesn't know if he is shirtless in solidarity with her own lack of clothes, wearing a very cropped shirt and running shorts, or if he too was sweaty and uncomfortable before a full moon.

"I still remember seeing you bite off the leg of a chair," Evan comes in also shirtless and scratching his arms, that seem more hairy than they should be for his age.

"Why are you both shirtless?," ask her mother, clearly appalled by her kids' indecency.

"It's hot today," Ethan sits down on the reclining couch in the corner of the room. Enid stays away from it, it's her brother's favorite seat and she doesn't trust their hygiene.

"It's at 60 degrees pup," her aunt giggles at her nephew's antics.

"I knew I was burning for a reason," Elliot walks in, also taking his shirt in the process.

Now it was Evan, Elliot and Enid standing at the entrance of the living room. Lack of clothing and very hyperactive.

"Don't join them Elliot," Esther is now rubbing her eyes in disappointment from her kids.

"Now you guys only need Eric to join in," says their aunt, bringing the cup to her lips to drink.

"Too late, he has been running in the backyard since 5 am. He is always hyperactive, I can't imagine how he must feel close to full moons," Ethan starts to stand up and join his siblings in the entrance of the living room.

"What do you guys think about a water battle in the backyard?," Ethan rubs his hands like some brilliant villain.

And that's how they ended up in the backyard with buckets, water balloons and an ungodly amount of water guns.

"Want to do teams or just go crazy?," Evan says while holding one of the bigger water guns.

Before anyone can answer his question someone shoots at Enid getting her face wet, starting the fight.

Enid immediately goes to run away from her brothers, Evan following her and shooting her with the gun. All of her brothers eventually go to team up against her, something about boys vs girls, which is just an excuse to gang up against her.

Enid was having a good time, she had been feeling anxious and shaky all day but here running with her brothers, roughhousing and with the water to cool them down she feels free and relaxed. But when her phone rings she realizes there is something else missing from her life. Wednesday.

As Enid's brothers initially ignored the ringtone they get surprised when Enid stops everything she is doing and stands still and quiet like a predator hearing a prey. That's when they get the idea of stealing the phone.

Evan, the quick thinker, is the first one to start running for the phone, Ethan following him closely with Eric and Enid starting afterwards. All of them started going close to the backyard door where they had left their stuff in some chairs by the wall. Evan makes Ethan fall which puts Ethan in the way of Enid who stumbles on Ethan and falls, but Evan couldn't count his win as Eric is faster than him and grabs the phone first.

"Well well well, it's the goth chick," Eric screams holding the phone up without answering.

"Answer stupid!," Ethan screams, throwing Enid off of him.

"Don't!," Enid extends her arm in Eric's direction, physically begging him to not do it, but he doesn't listen to her. All her brothers hate her.

"Hello?," Eric answers.

"You aren't Enid," Wednesday's stoic voice can be heard through the speakers.

"I'm much better than her sweetie," Eric pulls his hair to the back as if he was a boy in a romance movie flirting with Wednesday.

Enid realizes her brother's plan is to flirt with her Wednesday. She can't stand for that. She runs and tries to madly take her phone back but Ethan is faster and holds her feet making her once again fall.

"Can you pass the phone back to Enid," Wednesday sounded like she was holding onto the last part of her patience

"No sweetheart unfortunately she is busy right now, but you can talk to the better Sinclair," the flirty voice of her brother was making Enid's blood boil.

"Eric leave that damn fucking phone," Enid goes to stand and get Eric when she hears the sound of the call ending.

"Damn. What a way to get rejected," Elliot says sitting the farthest away from everyone, having not participated in the chaos.

She goes and grabs her phone from her brother and gives him a little push. Enid looking like a child about to throw a tantrum.

"Never answer my phone, and never flirt with Wednesday," she pokes his chest with every word.

Never had her brother's stupid antics gotten her this worked out, she knows they were joking but even the thought of one of them trying anything with Wednesday was infuriating. Now that Enid is thinking about it the thought of anyone flirting and calling with Wednesday is making her even more mad, with her brothers at least she knows they are joking but remembering Xavier and his nasty hands and nasty eyes on Wednesday make the hairs in Enid's arm feel longer than they should.

"Enid dude chill I was just joking, she ain't my type," Eric puts both of his hands up trying to calm Enid.

"Why not?," Enid says, offended.

Wednesday is extremely attractive, she isn't blind. Does dark eyes have a little shine to them, her freckles give her usual mad stoic expression a touch of demonic beauty, yeah she knows looks aren't everything and Wednesday's personality is not for everyone, but surely her brothers would know a hottie when it's right in front of them.

"She is cuckoo Enid," Evan answers while moving his finger on a circle around his head.

"No she is not... well she is but it's the good type, she is just a bit obsessive, and morbid, and sarcastic, and a little violent. But she is still a catch," Enid's claws are coming out as she tries to defend Wednesday.

"Enid relax we are sorry, you are right Wednesday seems like a wonderful girl," As the older brother Ethan is trying to deescalate the situation.

"Why did you guys stop the fight," Aunt Olivia stood in the sliding door leading to the backyard. Enid quickly gets her body under control and puts away her claws and growing fur.

"Enid got a call from her pookie," Elliot exposes her.

"I still don't like that you call her that," Enid interrupts.

She misses the days her brothers ignored her. Yeah she likes hanging out with them and having sibling bonding but at least if they were still ignoring her she wouldn't have to be going through this snooping of her private friendship with Wednesday.

"Oh, is that the vampire girl? Or the siren?," Aunt Olivia asks.

"The roommate ," Ethan goes to side hug Enid and give their aunt a knowing look. Enid doesn't understand why he would do that.

"The one you saved?," a small smirk forms in her lips that Enid doesn't understand the meaning of.

"Yes, the one I saved, Wednesday."

Most of the people in the community knew that Enid had wolfed out in the blood moon to save her roommate and school from being killed. She has been getting a lot of compliments for her actions, as well as praise for her scars of bravery. Within the werewolf community it's not often you get scars, as werewolf healing is extraordinary, so to get scars from defending someone is considered an honorable thing. She just wishes it was the same for the other species.

"Well I find it marvelous you transformed for your ma-" her aunt stops mid word, Enid wonders why and looks around to see her siblings giving her looks and signs with their hands for her to not talk, which leads to her changing the words. "Your roommate...?," Enid sees her brother Ethan slightly nod at her response.

"You guys better clean yourself of all dirt before getting in the house," Esther screams from behind Olivia, making Enid realize they are all covered in mud.

While the concept of alphas, betas and omegas have come to be scientifically disproven, it doesn't mean it has disappeared from the werewolf community as it stays to be an important part of their culture and community hierarchy.

So of course for Enid's first transformation she must prove physically, mentally and emotionally what type of role she could take within the community, meaning her first transformation has to be with the community leaders. Aka one of  'the alphas' has to be present with her for all her transformation, a very awkward thing every werewolf in the community dreads.

While Enid has been hoping for this moment since the age of 12, she is still nervous and anxious about the whole ordeal. There is nothing wrong with being any of the types, contrary to the portrayal of their culture there was no shame in being either of the roles, which means she isn't worried about what type she would be. But she is in fact worried about being a disappointment once again. Being reprimanded by a leader in her community does wonders for quickly making you the runt of the pack. A role she doesn't wish to be assigned again.

But with her increased popularity, thanks to her mom's bragging, people have become incredibly interested about what role Enid 'the Nevermore hero' would get.

"Don't worry pup," his dad pats her shoulder. "It would all be fine."

Enid knows she gets her enthusiasm from her dad, even do his expressions are limited and he may look like a classic lumberjack man, he is an optimist by nature and always tries to give Enid a little bit of hope and happiness in any way he can. So Enid appreciates as he gives her that warm smile he does when trying to calm her down.

"Yes there is nothing to worry about Enid," her mom interrupts, shaking her head as to make it more clear nothing is going to happen. "You have already impressed a lot of people."

Esther's words do nothing to calm Enid. The fact people were now expecting so much more from her is not calming her but rather putting boulders of pressure in her shoulders, and she feels she may fall soon.

"In my opinion Enid is a clear Beta," Elliot charms in, food still in his mouth.

"You only say that because you are one," Evan refutes, while cutting a bing chunk of meat.

"Yeah well I feel like me and Enid are one and the same," Elliot smirks at her while twisting his finger. Enid cringes at her brother's TikTok filled brain, she doesn't want him to use the 'twinning' sign with her.

"I would rather die," The words come quick and harsh from Enid, she would never want to be like her brother. She barely manages being associated with him.

"Enid," Esther reprimands her.

"Well I think she is an omega," Eric joins the guessing.

"I for once agree with Eric," Evan responds. "Enid reminds me more of Ethan than Elliot."

It surprises a lot of people to know Ethan isn't an alpha, with his tall broad built, his commanding presence and his ability to control his siblings, everyone sees him as an ideal alpha male. But Enid understands that he is actually a big softy who could never be able to handle more people than the ones in their house. Yeah he is commanding and controlling but he is emotionally driven and has problems with taking action in the moment. So his omega role is from being a caring and protective person, but not necessarily a great leader.

"I would be happy with any role, as you guys should be too," to the surprise of everyone Esther defends Enid. It is no secret Esther thinks higher of Alphas and would like her children to be that.

Yeah Enid knows she had established that the roles don't matter and it's a thing of jobs and community. But that doesn't stop some people from still having biases over which one is best. Funny considering her mom is a beta herself.

Ethan gives a look to Enid, he is analyzing her. Enid starts to feel self conscious. Her brother seems to be trying to look beneath her skin and solve whatever thought is running in his mind.

"I think she is an alpha," Ethan says quieter than he usually talks, his eyes still analyzing Enid.

Everyone goes quiet after that. Not even the sound of utensils hitting the plates is heard, Enid feels like the tension is building and there is a thick layer of it around them. Everyone stares at Ethan like he has said some wild thing.

"And I thought you the smartest after me," Evan is the first one to break the silence, shaking his head in disappointment.

While Enid has no preference to what role she gets, she is well aware she isn't alpha material. Heck she hadn't even considered that an option.

"Well I guess we would see tonight," Esther says hesitantly, clearly also not believing Ethan but trying to not outright tell Enid she doesn't believe she can be an alpha.
