Chapter Text

May 15th 8:48 am 2025 5x11

The golden sun rays painted a warm glow around Lucy's body as she slept. It had been about three weeks since she had been discharged and three months since her accident. After two weeks of staying at Tim's house and lots of OT she was finally ready to get back to it. Wind rustled outside her window as she felt her consciousness returning, the day had come.

She opened her eyes, blindly reaching out for Tim's muscular frame. He wasn't there, right she was home but it didn't feel like home without him. Whenever she thought of home, Tim showed up in her mind along with his house, his dog.

Sitting up in bed she got up, walking to the kitchen she crossed her arms and leaned against the door frame. A heavy weight seemed to be pulling her along, influencing her, telling her when and who to love. She couldn't shake the feeling that today was going to be the climax of her life, her story.

*** Lucy's car pulled into the parking lot, gravel crunching as she turned the ignition. Looking around she found she was alone, there were other cars but no other officers.

That was strange, most of the time there were at least a few, especially since shifts started in 10 minutes. Not waiting any longer she got out but stopped cold once she heard it, people. It wasn't unusual to hear people, but it sounded like, like a party?

Her brow furrowed as she cautiously walked up to the door, pulling the handle it swung open revealing two rows of officers lined up along the sides.

"Congratulations!"Jan spoke.
"What?" She questioned, looking around confused.

They congratulated her one by one, some patting her shoulder others nodding as she walked through.

Her mouth was open, wanting to speak but what was she to say to a mystery walk?

Walking past the locker room and into the bullpen she stopped cold. Her skirt rustled as her eyes popped to life, mouth agape.

"Lucy?"

There Tim stood the warmest smile of his face as he got down on one knee, opening out a ring box. The bullpen looked like Mid-Wilshire had gotten into a fight with party city and lost. Streamers hung along the balcony as Angela waved, one arm around Wesley.

"Wha.." She trailed off, patting her arm as if it was a dream.

"Lucy Crystal Chen, you know I'm not great with speeches. I'm better at actions, at doing rather than talking. But you've managed to pull more words, more emotions, and more love out of me than anyone ever has, so I'm going to try.

When we first partnered up, I told myself I was just training a rookie. That was it, nothing complex, no lines crossed, keep everything controlled. But you...you never stayed inside the lines.

You laughed when things got hard, helped when others shut down, found light in places the rest of us gave up looking. Somewhere along the way, long before I was willing to admit it, you got around my walls.

You changed me, Lucy, not by asking me to, but by showing me what life could look like when you let someone in, When I let someone in.

We've been through loss, danger, a serial killer and fear, every time the thing I held onto was you, Your voice, Your love, Your belief in me, even when I didn't deserve it. You're my partner, on duty, off duty, and everything in between.

So here I am, no walls, no distance, all of me, to ask you something I never thought I'd ask again.

Lucy Chen... will you make me the happiest man alive, will you let me give you all of me, will you marry me?

Her eyes drifted around, her friends and family smiling at her, everything was right, perfect.

"Yes!" She cried as she stuck her hand out, trembling slightly as he grasped her delicate finger, sliding the ring
