   Summary

   “There you are.” Ripped out of his thoughts by the deep affectionate voice behind him, he turned slowly. His heart skipped a beat. There, bathed in the golden light of the autumn sun, stood Feng Xin. He was still clad in armor, meaning he had come to the gardens immediately without taking any time to get into more comfortable attire. The shine in those beloved golden eyes could have rivalled the heat of a thousand fireplaces, the smile on his face so gentle that Mu Qing wanted nothing more than to throw himself into his arms. Yet he stayed where he was, leaned against the tree, arms folded.

   “He’s back”, he said softly.

   Feng Xin’s smile faltered for a moment, worry, tension and guilt flickering over his face, before the smile reappeared. Just as gentle with a tinge of sadness. “He is”, he answered slowly, taking a step towards him. For some reason, Mu Qing’s body tensed.

   After Xie Lian's unexpected ascension, Mu Qing wants to assist him - while also plagued by fears of abandonment. Luckily, his husband is there to get him out of his head.
