Healing

Chapter Text

“Is Killjoy an Omega? Is that why she’s taking heavy suppressants?”

Raze looked up as the healer’s steps faltered, unable to see her expression from behind. She watched as Sage braced her shoulders, seeming to clutch the engineer closer to her as if to protect her. Raze braced herself for an answer she may not like, but had to know for the sake of the Omega in the healer's arms. After a few minutes of silence, Sage finally spoke, albeit hesitantly.

“Yes… She takes heavy suppressants and heat blockers to hide the fact that she is an Omega.. after an incident..” Raze sucked a deep breath in hating the fact that she was right.

“Wh-when did this happen? How long has she been taking them?” She demanded, instincts flaring to protect the omega. Sage growled low, which caught Raze off guard enough to back off slightly and take back control of her wolf.

“She’s been taking them since she was 18…. She’s around your age now I believe.” They had reached the infirmary, and Sage walked in without another word. Gently placing Kiljoy on an empty bed she checked her vitals before pulling a blanket over her.

“If she started them at 18… and she’s 25 now? Those aren't supposed to be taken regularly.. it’s-“

“I know, I’ve been trying to find a way to lower the doses, or get her to stop them.. but she may try to bolt.. or worse if she gets off them especially with so many other alphas around..” Sage said softly, resting a gentle hand on the engineer's shoulder.

“Which is why I hope she can learn to trust you and the other duelists. Maybe you guys will be able to convince her.” Raze glances up, meeting Sage’s steady gaze and nodding.

“Of course, the others want to help her and befriend her. She… deserves that much at least.” Raze said softly, turning her eyes to the sleeping form, missing Sage's knowing smile.

“Call me when she wakes up please.. I want to do one more check before I allow her to leave.” Raze nodded, falling into an empty seat by the bed, eyes on the omega as her mind raced. She barely heard Sage leave, or the door closing quietly behind her as she organized her own thoughts. Killjoy was an Omega, and the longer she thought back on it, it made sense to the duelist. What she didn’t understand, however, was why Killjoy was still taking heavy heat blockers and suppressants even if they were killing her. Her eyes scanned the engineer, noticing that the pinched expression the engineer usually had was smoothed out, her face was sunken in but she had very fair features, and very kissable lips. The last thought caught Raze off guard, and she blinked in surprise as her wolf was preening softly at the thought.

“I’m already whipped… and I don’t even know her…” Raze whispered with a soft chuckle, settling into the seat for the long wait just as the doors opened with a quiet woosh. Glancing up she spotted Phoenix and Jett, faces pinched in concern as they made their way over.

“We heard from Sage, how is she?” Phoenix asked quietly as he settled into another empty seat beside them, Jett sitting on Raze’s other side.

“She’s okay, just a panic attack.. but I found some info out.” Raze said, needing to tell her friends before it ate at her. “She’s an Omega, she had an incident, been taking the suppressants and Heat blockers since she was 18… so 8 years..”

The twin gasps told Raze all she needed as she looked over to her friends. Jett was first to move, leaning forward on the seat with a serious expression.

“8 years…..” Jett whispered softly “That's some serious damage then… What's the plan, how can we help?” Raze smiled at her friends, grateful for his friends as they settled in. They had distracted her from worrying with jokes while they waited for Killjoy to wake back up.

It was well past Midnight when Raze felt more than saw Killjoy wake up. The sheets rustled slightly as the sentinel moved under the sheets. Raze lifted her head from where she was curled on the couch, her neck cracking in protest and noticed the omega was blinking unsure in the dim light. She watched with quiet enchantment as Killjoy slowly pushed herself up, arms shaking slightly as she scanned the room, a confused look set on her face. That confused look quickly turned to one of surprise when she spotted the three duelists. Raze smiled faintly when Killjoy's eyes found hers.

“Hey, how are you feeling?” She whispered softly to not bother the sleeping Duelists beside them. She watched as Killjoy scooted to the side, putting more distance between them and took a step back as well. It proved to be the right move as the Sentinel relaxed a fraction before responding.

“Tierd…. Wh-what happened? Last I remember we were in the training room?” She whispered softly, lips pulling into a frown as she tried to think back. Before raze responded, She pulled out her phone to call Sage to the infirmary, before looking back up.

“You- had a panic attack, I tried to help but you freaked out further and passed out…”

“Why are you guys here then? Sh-shouldn’t you be practicing or something…?”

“We stayed because we were worried… you passed out with me and I wanted to make sure you were okay.”

That seemed to freeze the genius’s brain, and she watched a flurry of emotion pass over her. Before she could talk anymore, the doors opened and Sage walked in, smiling as she saw Killjoy sitting up.

“Ah Killjoy you're up! How do you feel? Any pain? Do you need food or water?” Sage set about checking her over as Killjoy just shook her head. Killjoy leaned closer to Sage, eyes flicking nervously to Raze before she spoke, her voice a whisper.

“Did…. Did an alpha..?” Raze caught it despite trying not to and she turned away to keep Killjoy from seeing her get pissed. Was this why she was so avoidant of Alphas? Raze was ready to rip someone’s throat out when Sage spoke .

“No- no one did that I promise Kiddo. No one here would do that I promise.” Raze turns to see Sage pull the Omega into a hug, and smiles gently as Killjoy's eyes meet hers.

“Th-thank you for staying…” She whispered softly and Raze felt her smile widen. She could feel her wolf happy tapping on the floor at the praise.

“Of course.. I couldn’t just leave you there. Not since I think I caused most of the panic.” Raze said simply, and the other two duelists chose that moment to wake up. Once Jett spotted Killhou was up she jumped up and carefully brought her into a hug, feeling killjoy tense before melting into the embrace. Raze chuckled softly, wishing she could take a picture of her, a little jealous that she wasn’t hugging the sentinel.

“YOUR OKAY! How are you feeling? Need food? Water?” Jett said quickly, pulling back though keeping hand contact with the sentinel as she shook her head.

“I-I’m okay. You didn’t have to stay though..” Jett glared playfully at the Omega, though softened it as she flinched back slightly.

“Of course we stayed! You're our friend whether you like it or not!” Jett said with a hint of finiality, pulling the sentinel into a hug again and scent marking her gently. Phoenix was silent in his approach, simply offering a hand for the sentinel, who took it after some hesitation.

Sage and Raze watched with small smiles glad the omega was alright. Before leaving Sage turned to Raze. “Make sure she eats and gets more sleep, and keep just being there for her, you three are good for her.” Raze nodded and watched as the healer left, before turning to the 3 near the bed. Phoenix and Jett were talking, more like teasing, each other while Killjoy watched with a half bemused, half anxious expression. Raze laughed softly and took her seat joining in the conversation and joking with the duelists, ignoring the way her heart fluttered as Killjoy relaxed with her presence.

When Raze woke up the next morning, she groaned softly and pushed herself up her back protesting greatly against the action. As her vision cleared she barely held in a coo at the sight. Killjoy was curled against Jett’s side, the wind radiant curled around the omega. One of Killjoys hands was resting over the Wind radiants side, hand still holding Phoenix, who was still asleep, one arm cushioning his head on the bed and snoring softly. Raze got up quietly and left the room, heading to the cafeteria to get food and coffee, stopping short as Viper and Brimstone by the coffee maker.

“Damn.. You're up early Raze.” Brimstone said simply, the alpha raising an eyebrow at the bombs expert who just shrugged.

“How’s Killjoy?” Viper said, eyebrows raised slightly as Raze went about making cups of coffee for the 3 back in the infirmary.

“Sleeping now, had a panic attack and stayed the night in the infirmary.” Brim froze at that.

“What? Killjoy had a panic attack? Where? When? Is she okay?” Viper nodded, stepping closer to the distressed alpha.

“Brimstone. Take a breath. Sage got to her and she’s fine. Go see her in the infirmary." Brim was gone without so much as a goodbye, a stormy expression on his face. Raze gulped softly watching him go, though Viper just sighed.

“I heard from Sage that you, Jett, and Phoenix were trying to befriend the sentinel. How’s it going?”

“Slow.. but I think we have gained a little of her trust from just staying with her while she was out.” Raze thought back to how relaxed Killjoy was by the time she had fallen asleep. She still hadn’t talked much, but she wasn’t shying away from them. A quiet hum from Viper snapped her back to the present.

“Good. She needs friends.. and if you guys can help her accept that part.. she won’t need to take them anymore.” Raze nodded, frowning slightly at the mention before gathering the cups and heading back, with a wave back to Viper, who reminded her that they had a training session later. When she reached the infirmary she walked in to see Jett and Phoenix talking softly, Jett off the bed as Killjoy and Brim talked. Raze felt the tension as she stepped over to the other duelists and handing them their coffee.

“He came in while we were still waking up, scared the shit outta me and Pheonix… especially with that expression…” Jett whispered, before taking a sip of her coffee. Raze hid her grin as she handed over Killjoys carefully, hear fluttering as she smiled faintly in response, before turning to her father. Brim watched with an unreadable expression.

“We have a training session with Viper later today.” Raze informed, the twin groans of the other to duelists.

“Aw cmonnnnn, never a day of just relaxing…” Jett groaned, hearing Brim sigh exasperated at the childish antics before wishing them luck and leaving, Jett and Phoenix behind him still groaning about practice. Raze laughed softly though when she heard shifting she turned to see Killjoy climbing out of bed. Standing up immediately, she kept an eye on the omega as she pushed herself up and off the bed. Her legs were shaking slightly from the weight shift but she didn’t immediately collapse.

“You should get something to eat…” Raze didn’t realize she spoke out loud until Killjoy huffed softly, glaring over her shoulder, though it looked more like an angry kitten. Raze stifled a quiet laugh and held up her hands in surrender. “Sages orders! Just following the boss. I doubt you want to make her angry.” Killjoy huffs a soft laugh, and raze preens at being the one to pull the sound from the stoic engineer. She followed Killjoy to the door, watching as she walked off, still shaky but steady. As Killjoy turned the corner, Raze turned and headed for the training room, her mind fully on the Omega.
