   In an alternate American South that's slightly more magical and considerably more Christofascist, three teenagers end up on the border between Heaven and Earth. Each found their way there fleeing their abusive families, and ran straight into the arms of their God instead, an eldritch horror playacting at being a loving, motherly deity.

   It offers them escape, and a chance to become one of its favored angels, in exchange for helping it feed. The trio seizes at the chance for freedom and to build a better home than the ones they were given, rescuing other abused kids they know. But the town and church that protected their abusers for so long isn’t keen to let them go, and the kids refuse to relinquish their newfound freedom without a fight–even if it means the end of the world as they know it.
