Chapter Text
The students warped into the mirrors one by one, into the dorms, some reluctantly and some excitedly. Dazai hopped to his new dorm, tailing right behind the deep voiced boy with pink highlights in his hair. “Good morning, everyone! My name is Lilia Vanrouge, I’m the vice housewarden of diasomnia, your new dorm. Unfortunately speaking, our housewarden missed the orientation, so I'll be introducing him to you all in just a minute.”
Murmurs and whispers started to rise in the crowd of the first years, while Dazai perked up, hearing the whispers. “Housewarden malleus?” “THAT Malleus draconia?” “The heir to briar valley?” the rumors spread. Dazai observed, summarizing that this malleus fellow is quite the influential figure, as he continued on collecting bits of information to sustain.
Meanwhile, in savanaclaw, a young hyena seemed to be explaining the rules and usual schedule of the dorm, while the boy with lion ears seemed to be leaning on the wall next to him, … asleep? Chuuya looked around in confusion, trying to find a place to stand to be able to catch a glimpse of what was happening upfront, before bumping into someone. “Oi-! Watch where you’re going!” he almost fell down from the impact.
As he looked up to see who the hell just bumped into him, he saw a tall, white haired wolf man, making Chuuya think just what do these people eat to grow so damn tall. “Didn’t see you there, are you alright?” The boy looked quite intimidating. “Oi! what did you mean by "you didn't see me”!?” Chuuya shot back up, a little stirred, since Chuuya was literally only the height of this guy’s shoulder.
“Well… I can't say I saw you in my line of sight.” In other words, the tall white haired wolf just called Chuuya short. “Why you–! I’m 15 dammnit im still growing!” he went back on his tirade, yet before he could continue, the tall boy’s eyes widened. “15?! Hell are you doing at a college, kid? What are you, some kinda prodigy?” The tall boy seemed very surprised. “Damn straight.” Chuuya crossed his hands in confidence. Well, if Dazai can bullshit his way out 99% of the time, so can Chuuya.
So.. it was a college, Chuuya thought. No wonder the people here seemed mature looking. “Huh. I guess that is a respectable feat to reach at such a young age…” the tall boy murmured. “My name’s jack howl I’m also a first year here.” he sighed, extending his hand. “Chuuya. Chuuya nakahara.” Chuuya grinned, giving Jack a firm handshake.
“Well, kid. You're not all that bad, I guess. Have you gotten yourself acquainted with the school and the dorm?” jack tilted his head. “Well. not really. I don't even know who the hell’s speaking there up front.” Chuuya answered truthfully. Maybe the Jack fellow can prove to be a reliable source of information. “You don’t know the vice housewarden and housewarden??” Jack seemed quite surprised, but stopped there.
“Well, the one talking right now is Ruggie bucchi, our vice housewarden, the boy with the lion ears is Leona Kingscholar, our housewarden.” Jack informed. Before Chuuya could continue, Leona speaks up. “You there, new meat, can you talk any louder? Even the sound of your voice was enough to wake me.” Chuuya's eyes widened, as he made direct eye contact with the housewarden. “Do you always greet everyone like a jackass? Or am I special?” Chuuya scoffs, a silence closing over the others. No one else seemed to dare say anything, before Leona burst into laughter. “This one’s got teeth!” Leona answers, nudging ruggie. “And I bite.” Chuuya followed up. “You all bark no bite, or are ya actually as good as you say?” Leona grinned, one upping the red head, as a red aura formed around Chuuya, the ground cracking as some nearby stones gathered around.
“Oh you bet I’m as good as I say” he grinned, making Leona laugh again. “That’s more my style. Welcome to savanaclaw, herbivore.”
“Now then! Let me introduce you to your housewarden!” Lilia smiled cheekily, leading the freshmen into the lavish and elegant halls of diasomnia, before halting before a large stone throne at the end of the diasomnia common room. The throne had two big dragon-like wings, with a student with horns sitting on it, beside him, a green haired first year student seemed to be standing guard. It was as clear as day to Dazai that this, was the feared housewarden.
“Malleus, my boy! The new students are here. Don't scare them!” Lilia addressed malleus cheerfully. Lilia seemed to be the only person to be brave enough to talk to malleus this way, and it really shows. “Hmph. I never intend to scare anyone.” Malleus replied, still holding his staff that seemingly looked like a spin wheel. “Well, your presence alone sends chills down these poor youngin’s spines. Have a little sympathy!” Lilia chuckled.
“Very well then… my name is Malleus Draconia, the housewarden of diasomnia. You all are here because the mirror has chosen you suitable to these dorm’s values, therefore I will uphold you to such standards.” Dazai could tell, that this elegant, tall figure up front held a lot of authority and power. Just by how the other students reacted to him, it was as clear as day.
Most of the first years seemed to have flinched under such intense scrutiny, from a powerful figure nonetheless, but only one seemed to have that unwavering poise of an unbothered feline, smiling lazily. Dazai Osamu. This very much caught Malleus's attention. “You, there, the one with the bandaged eye.” he called out. “Yes, sir?” he answered playfully, head tilting with that shit-eating grin. “You do not cower in fear like all the others. Tell me. Are you brave, or simply stupid?” Malleus questioned.
“Third option, just clinically suicidal~ if you wanted to kill me, you would’ve sone it already.” he shrugged with a charming flare. “Ah! I like this one!” Lilia laughed, while the first year next to Malleus seemed to have taken offense to that statement, as if Dazai had just said that to him. “How dare you speak to waka-sama like tha-!” malleus raised a hand, stopping the boy. “Let him speak, sebek.” he answered calmly before turning back to Dazai. “Introduce yourself.”
“Dazai Osamu, fifteen years old, professional disappointment, at your service.” Dazai bowed lazily. It wasn’t quite the mocking bow, yet it wasn't the respectful type either. Silence dawned across the room, before Malleus broke it. “You… are fifteen?” Malleus asked. “Ding, ding, ding! 5 points!” Dazai finger guns, while Malleus looked confused.
“He means you’re correct, my dear boy.” Lilia explained, before Malleus let out a silent “ohh”. “Well, then, child of man… welcome to diasomnia.” ..that was unexpected. Dazai fully expected the horned boy to question him more, anything but that. Though, a win’s a win, so Dazai seemed to accept the outcome.
“Now! Any questions?” Lilia grinned mischievously, filling the silence. “Oh, me! Me!” Dazai hopped up in faux excitement. Lilia’s smile widened. “Wonderful! Ask your question.” He chirped back. “Are those thorns at the bottom of the dorm real? Would I by chance die if I jumped off?” his eyes twinkling like a child. Lilia paused as the entire dorm went silent, before laughing his ass off. Thus, was the reason why the bottomless pit of thorns in diasomnia was sealed off for…. Safety reasons.
