She’s talking to the cops who put his dad in the back of their car. He can’t really see him from here, but he was yelling and cussin’ a lot.
No one’s paying much attention to him right now.

Eddie's not paying much attention to him, which he did expect. He's okay with that as long as he doesn't stray too far. Losing him here would be too stressful.

"Wayne! Look at how many people are setting up for them!" Eddie is bouncing on his feet, not even looking away from the stage to see if Wayne is paying attention. "There's at least seven people just moving their shit around."

The spray paint hasn't even dried yet and Eddie's already scrubbing it off the house.
He insisted it was a bad idea, but Frankie insisted it was karma. Karma for what, Eddie doesn't really know.
As far as he knows, Harrington's never done anything directly to any of their group. He didn't really stop his sheep from doing stuff, but that in itself isn't a crime deserving of this punishment.
It's not even his house. If his parents came home and saw this, Eddie's pretty sure Steve would be punished in ways that aren't fair at all for some light bullying in high school.
He doesn't even know if Steve's home. The lights haven't been on since he got here and it's not that late. He can't possibly be sleeping.
The paint isn't coming off.
Headlights reflect off the window to his left and he freezes. The lights get brighter and closer.
He turns.
The headlights are on him. He waves.
They shut off.
Steve steps out of his car, but doesn't come closer. Eddie can't really see more than the shadow of him; The porch light is dim and nearly a full 25 feet away.

That's when he sees the headlights. At first, he's sure it's a trick of the light. The mountains do that, sometimes. Ghost lights. Headlights that seem to be coming your way, but never arrive. Blinking out of existence like they were never there at all.
Eddie thinks that seems fitting. He kind of did the same thing. He feels like his past life was a mirage, all smoke and mirrors. A trick the universe played on him.
It's not until he hears the crunch of tires, slow, steady, equipped with chains at least, that he knows someone is actually approaching.
