Keith has been on his own since he was 8 years old. From foster home to foster home, he was his own company.... until he met Shiro at 14.

He tried to kick and swim upwards, but he couldn’t tell what way was up and what way was down and his body wasn’t cooperating with him, remaining annoyingly limp.
That was when he felt warm hands loop around his waist. Keith instinctively wrapped his numb arms around his savior's neck and said savior helped him adjust before he was kicking against the pool bottom and propelling them to the surface. When they breached it, Keith let out a wheezing breath, unsure if the substance falling from his face was tears, blood, or chlorinated pool water.
