Summary
Slowly, Jaskier crouches down, mimicking Geralt's position.
"If you find yourself alone with him when his mind gets confused-" Vesemir told him months back. It was toward the beginning of their journey back from Sudduth. "-don't hover over him. Instead, make yourself small and stay calm. No quick movements, and don't stare him down. Just give him space and time to clear his head."
Right. Small and calm. He can do that. The former better so than the latter, but-
This is probably a stupid idea. He should get out and get someone else. This is Geralt, after all. Despite the scars the last ten years left on him, he still could easily kill him. Jaskier is no fighter, and he certainly is no witcher.
Geralt's eyes are fixed on Jaskier, keeping track of his every move. They are wide and angry. But below the anger, there is something else.
Fear. Terror.
And the thought that Geralt could be afraid of him of all people still has lost nothing of its absurdity to Jaskier. Of him, of all people. Of a silly, little bard.
… of his friend.
"It's okay," Jaskier says, voice quiet. "You're okay. You just had a nightmare."

Summary
“Really now,” Gaunter smirks. “Do you think I would go through all the hassle to reach you just to harm the leech growing in you?” He considers him, amusement glinting in his eyes. “Though, the better question is why you wouldn’t want me to. You don’t want them in the first place, do you?”
Geralt bares his teeth. “Fuck off! I’m not interested in your games, O’Dimm. I told you-“
“Yes, yes,” Gaunter huffs, waving him off. “To fuck off for good. I remember.” He pauses, watching Geralt with a look that appears just as smug as annoyed. “And I did. Listened quite well, that is. Didn’t I? Even when you begged me to come and make a deal with you when those nasty sorcerers used you in so many different gruesome ways.”
Cold sweat breaks out all over Geralt, and he takes another step back.
He did-
Did he?
He can’t remember-
“Oh, I wouldn’t be worried about that. You usually did when you were teetering on losing yourself.” His grin is all teeth.
Geralt glances around, wondering where he is. Whether this is a dream? Whether all of it was just a dream?
***
Kaer Morhen is no longer safe, and Geralt has to journey South.

Summary
A soft, pained whine passes Geralt's lips, and he involuntarily makes a step back, shivering.
"Get on your knees," Marioth barks sharply. "Now!"
Geralt feels his body move, but before he can do as he is told, a hand grasps his upper arm tightly.
"You do this," Gaunter grunts, "you give up like this, and you will be his forever. Do you understand, Geralt? He won't let me reach you again, and you will be on your own. Do you really think your friends will be able to get to you again? No. You will be his until he grows bored or dies, and both won't happen anytime soon." He growls, lowly, the otherworldly quality returning to his words. "He will kill the babies in you, force others onto you, and do the same with them. Again and again, because he loves hurting you. And he will go after your friends, especially the bard and the sorceress, since they dared to snatch you right from under his nose. He won't stand for that, no matter what you want to believe. You are the only person who can get you out of this, and the only chance you have to do so is right now."
