Summary
Because authors are limited in how much they can write, I find myself interested in what happens between the lines leading up to Alec and Magnus' kiss in City of Glass. I first rewrote the scene nearly 9 years ago in 2016, and it was to be part of much larger work of between the lines stories. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I now finally have time to rewrite what I initially wrote, because I didn't feel that it was my best effort, and my writing style has changed since my first posting. I am choosing to leave it up for the purpose of comparing the two works, if you choose to do so.
It is the same scene, broken out into 3 distinct perspectives:
Alec's leading up to finding Magnus
Magnus' leading up to Alec finding him
Both as the scene leads up to the kissBold text is dialogue. If the text is bold and italic, it's an inner dialogue.
If I notice any editing issues, I will make changes and add notes with the date of change.
Hopefully you enjoy my rewrite of my rewrite! I am also in the planning phase of an original story that takes place in the Shadowhunter TV world rather than the Mortal Instruments series.

Everything seemed to pass in between one blink and the next. Kissing Magnus, sliding the ring onto his finger, and then watching him leave for Edom. The look Magnus had given him before entering the portal is seared under his eyelids. Magnus had smiled at him, bittersweet after Alec said, it’s only Edom. You always come back, because the thought, the mere idea of Magnus being trapped in Edom for the rest of their lives, for all eternity is unimaginable.
Unacceptable.
There is no universe where Alec will let that happen. There’s no way that Alec will just leave Magnus in Edom.

However old Lucifer, still bitter from being cast out, decides to take advantage of this offer. He tasks the chosen 4 to go to Alicante, chose some Angels, get close to them and bring them back to Edom, their wings scorched black.
