This is a story about a boy who can’t stop moving–running, fighting, you name it–and a world that isn’t quite ready for him. It’s not pretty–nothing about Barty Crouch Jr. ever is–but it’s something, even if that something is a dumpster fire from hell.
This is going to be a long one, folks, so buckle up. Barty has a lot to say, and it’s high time he gets the mic.

When Barty first met Evan, he thought he was the most interesting boy he’d ever seen. It was the first day of school, at the shitty public primary on the worst side of town.
He was all excited green eyes, sun-bleached curls and a wide, scrunched-up grin. So, Barty did what he always did: moved and made noise and filled the empty spaces between people. Little Barty had no sense of personal space – maybe still doesn’t when it comes to Evan – so he had no hesitation in grabbing a curl with a sticky finger and twirling, giggling when it sprung back into place.
“Hey, get off me, stupid,” Evans words were covered by a slight lisp, and Barty couldn’t help but think it was the most fascinating sound he’d heard. He leant closer, spotting a missing tooth at the front of Evan’s mouth.
“Wait, say that again,” he giggled. “Get off me, thtupid”
Evan replied with a fist to the nose, and Barty spent the rest of the day in the sick bay.
After that first meeting in year 1, Barty clung to Evan like the red sand constantly sticking to their skin.

Barty and Evan rarely spoke, but then again Evan rarely spoke to anyone. Barty was cool, Evan thought, with his cool hair, and his cool piercings, and his cool tattoos.
