"Even just touching Jin Zixuan this way feels intimate in a way it doesn't need to be. It's just a casual touch, Meng Yao has no reason to get so worked up about it, but he can't help but think he wishes he could do more. He isn't even sure what. Maybe a hug would be nice, but for some reason he feels self-conscious about it, as if he'd be doing something wrong.
So he just lets his hand linger on his arm. He can't stop thinking about everything Jin Zixuan said. He has no idea why hearing that he is attracted to men gave him butterflies. That doesn't strike him as the right response to that information.
Perhaps it's just... the feeling of recognition. Meng Yao has been telling himself he could be straight if he wanted to be. He likes women just fine, he has no need to follow his whims about everyone else – although, even so, look at his dating history. He hasn't had much luck in that department, has he?
Which is all the more reason he feels like he needs to keep his distance from Jin Zixuan."
